About the Thicken Feature User Interface
The Thicken tab consists of commands, tabs, and shortcut menus. Select a quilt or surface geometry to thicken, and then click Model > Thicken to open the Thicken tab.
Commands
Fill with solid material—Creates a solid volume using the selected surface or quilt.
Remove material—Removes material using the selected surface or quilt.
Offset value—Defines the thickness of the material of the feature.
—Switches the material direction of the thicken feature. Each click cycles the material side from one side, to the other side, and then both sides.
Tabs
References
Quilt collector—Displays the surface or quilt to thicken.
Options
Normal to surface—Offsets the thickened surface normal to the original surface.
Exclude Surfaces collector—Displays surfaces to exclude from the thicken operation.
*
The Exclude Surfaces collector is not available for design situations involving quilts made of unique surfaces and quilts where all but one of the quilt surfaces have been excluded. You cannot exclude the last remaining quilt surface.
Automatic fit—Scales and translates the thickened surface in relation to an automatically determined coordinate system.
Controlled fit—Scales the original surface about a selected coordinate system, and then translates it along a specified axis.
Coordinate system collector—Displays the coordinate system used to scale and fit the offset.
Allow translationX, Y, and Z check boxes—Translates and scales along the selected axes. By default the x-, y-, and z-axes are selected as the translation axes. If you do not want to allow translation along a certain axis, clear the appropriate check box.
Body Options
Not available for creating assembly-level features.
Add geometry to body—Displayed when geometry is added.
Create new body check box—Creates the feature in a new body.
Body collector
Selects the body to which geometry is added when you add the feature to an existing body. The default body is displayed, unless you select a different body.
Shows the name of the new body when you create the feature in a new body.
Cut geometry from body—Displayed when geometry is removed.
All—Cuts geometry from all the bodies that the feature passes through.
Selected—Cuts geometry from the selected bodies. The default body is displayed, unless you select a different body or bodies.
Body collector—Selects the body from which geometry is removed.
Properties
Name box—Sets a name for a feature.
—Displays detailed component information in a browser.
Shortcut Menus
Right-click the graphics window to access shortcut menu commands.
Thicken Quilt—Activates the Quilt collector.
Coordinate System—Activates the Coordinate system collector.
Exclude Surfaces—Activates the Exclude Surfaces collector.
Select bodies—Activates the body collector so you can select bodies.
Create new body—Creates the feature in a new body.
All—Removes geometry from all the bodies that the feature passes through.
Selected—Removes geometry from the selected bodies.
Flip—Changes the material direction of the thicken feature.
Remove Material—Removes material using the surface or quilt geometry as the boundary.
Add Material—Adds material using the surface or quilt geometry as the boundary.
Right-click the direction arrow to access shortcut menu commands.
Flip—Flips the material direction of the thicken feature. Each click cycles the material side from one side to the other sides.
Both Sides—Creates the Thicken feature symmetrically on both sides of the quilt reference.
