To Split a Volume into One or More Volumes
1. Click Mold > Mold Volume > Volume Split. The Volume Split tab opens.
2. Click the Mold volume collector and select a Refpart Cutout volume or a workpiece that you want to split.
*
The reference parts must be cut out from the workpiece before you split it. On the Volume Split tab, click Refpart Cutout to open the Refpart Cutout tab, and cut out the reference parts from a workpiece or a die block. If you plan to use classified core, cavity, or undercut surfaces using Classify Surfaces command, you do not need to cut out the reference part.
3. Click the Splitting surfaces collector and select one or more parting surfaces. Alternatively, you can click the References tab and select the volumes and parting surfaces. You can select one or more parting surfaces, quilts, or volumes. The Volumes tab displays the names of volumes that are created after you split the original volume.
*
If you have classified the surfaces, you must select the classified surfaces along with the parting surface.
If Refpart Cutout volume is selected as a split volume reference, you cannot select the classified surfaces as split surfaces. You must select a workpiece or a mold volume as a split volume reference to use the classified surfaces.
Ensure that the parting surface intersects a workpiece or a die block and does not intersect itself.
4. Click Two Volumes, One Volume, or Individual Volumes and select the volume islands from the Islands tab to create the desired volume split features. You can rename the features that are created after the split.
Two Volumes (default)—The selected islands are included in the first volume and the unselected islands are included in the second volume. While redefining the volume split feature, if you remove any islands in the first volume, they are automatically included in the second volume.
One Volume—Only the selected islands are included in a single volume feature. While redefining the volume split feature, you can increase or decrease the number of selected islands to include them in the volume.
Individual Volumes—Separate volume feature is created for each selected island. Unselected islands are not created. While redefining the volume split feature:
You can replace the volumes, but you cannot alter the number of volumes into which the original volume has split.
Any attempt to decrease the number of volumes can lead to failure in volume creation.
5. Optionally, select a volume to highlight it in the graphics window.
*
To preview the final split feature, click to open the Verify mode. You cannot preview multiple split volume features in this mode. Only the parent volume is displayed as preview.
6. On the Properties tab, specify the name of the volume split feature.
7. Click OK.
The volume split features are created and listed in the Model Tree.
*
If volume splitting fails, you can use Intersection Curves on the Volume Split tab to analyze and rectify the intersection curves of the volume that you want to split.
