About Associating Models with Drawings
You can import part and assembly models and their drawing files to Creo Parametric and use the Legacy Drawing Associator (LDA) to associate the drawings and the models. You can also associate the drawings with parts and assemblies that you opened as non-Creo models in Creo Parametric. The association of the part and assembly models with the drawings creates model and drawing pairs and is useful for the import and migration of legacy data from other CAD systems.
You can use LDA to convert legacy drawings to associative drawings. You can open a drawing file and use LDA in the Drawing mode to associate the drawing with a model and create a drawing and model pair. The drawing files can belong to the IGES and the DXF file formats. The part and assembly models must belong to any of the supported 3D exchange file formats such as STEP, IGES, CATIA V4, CATIA V5, NX, SolidWorks, and Parasolid. The models may be BREP or fully-featured.
Open a drawing file and click Map > Add Model on the Legacy Migration tab or right-click the drawing and click Add Model to add a model to the drawing. You can add models to the drawing from disk or session. To add a model from session, click In Session in the Common Folders pane of the File Open dialog box and select the model that you want to associate with the drawing. While you can import models that belong to the supported file formats, you can select Open in the File Open dialog box to open a CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks part or assembly as a non-Creo model to associate with the drawing.
LDA creates the following levels of association between the imported drawings and their models:
Model
Views
Annotations
To associate the imported drawings and models and create model and drawing pairs, the drawings and models must belong to the same parts and assemblies. A drawing can also map to more than one model. The drawings must include 2D views. If the drawings do not contain 2D views, LDA allows you to create the 2D views.
Associating the models to their drawings consists of the following steps:
Mapping the model objects in the drawings to the 3D models.
Associating the models to the 2D drawing views.
Reassociating the 2D annotations to the 2D views. For this association, you must convert the annotations on the drawings to the associative entities of the model geometry.
Reassociating the draft dimensions, notes, and other drawing content to the associative content of the model geometry.
Mapping the 3D models to the 2D views of the drawings with respect to the orientation and scaling of geometry consists of the following steps:
Determining the orientation and scaling of the models with respect to the 2D views in the drawings.
Removing the 2D geometry of each drawing view, excluding annotations, notes, and dimensions.
Projecting the model geometry into the 2D views.
This mapping of 2D drawings and 3D model data establishes the relevant dependency relationships between the drawings and the models and creates model and drawing pairs. You can check in the model-drawing pairs to Windchill locations.
