About Redefining Imported Features with Solid Bodies
After you import part and assembly models to Creo or insert the imported part models in existing parts, you can redefine the imported features, including the imported features of the child features that exist within the bodies of part models and the part components of assemblies. To redefine the imported features so that the geometry contained in the solid bodies are reset to suit your requirements, select an imported feature on the Model Tree or the graphics window and click Model > Operations > Edit Definition or click on the mini toolbar that appears.
You can click the following options on the Import tab to reset the solid geometry and surfaces contained in the solid bodies while the additional geometry of the import features such as the quilts that are not solid and datum features remain unchanged.
Add Bodies—Resets the body structure of the imported feature as follows:
Solid bodies that correspond with the bodies of the imported feature are created and added to the part.
Empty bodies are created when the quilts of the imported feature are not closed and fail to solidify. You can then click on the Import tab and repair the quilts in Import DataDoctor (IDD) so that they are closed. The empty bodies are then automatically populated with the solid geometry of the closed quilts.
The Body Options tab is not available on the Import tab.
Add Material—Redefines the imported feature as follows:
The solid geometry of all the bodies of the imported feature is merged and included in the default body of the part or the body designated as the default.
The Body Options tab is available on the Import tab and you can select the Create new body check box to create a new body with the additional geometry.
When you select the Create new body check box, a new body is created. The merged solid geometry of all the bodies that was added to the default body of the part is removed from the default body and is added to this newly created body.
The closed quilts do not contribute geometry to the default body of the part.
Remove Material—This option appears greyed out.
Add Surfaces—Redefines the imported feature and its solid bodies as follows:
The solid geometry of the bodies of the import feature is available as quilts that is not solidified.
The Body Options tab is not available on the Import tab.
Whether you select Add Bodies or Add Material on the Import tab, you can suppress, resume, or delete the imported features with solid bodies as follows:
Suppressing the imported features suppresses the solid geometry of the newly-added bodies or the default body of the part. Also suppresses the quilts and datum geometry of the imported features.
Resuming the suppressed imported features restores the solid geometry of the added bodies or the default body. Also restores the quilts and the datum geometry of the imported features that were suppressed.
Deleting the imported features deletes the solid geometry of the added bodies or the default body of the part. Also deletes the quilts and the datum geometry of the imported features.
Deleting or suppressing the imported features only suppresses or deletes the solid geometry of the bodies and not the body structures. However, the body structures can become empty when they do not have contributing geometry and solid features.
