Considerations when Updating TIMs and ATB-enabled Imported Features
Consider the following information when updating Translated Image Models (TIMs) and Associative Topology Bus (ATB)-enabled features:
If you have broken the link of a TIM or ATB-enabled feature using Make Independent, you cannot re-establish the link or update the part that is independent and has lost its association with the reference model.
The atb_auto_check_on_update configuration option, when set to on, allows you to skip the manual Check Status step of the update process. The system automatically checks the status of any TIM or ATB-enabled feature selected for update before the TIM or the ATB-enabled feature is updated, thus eliminating the two-step process of checking the current status and then update.
When you perform a selective or global update, those objects that are marked out-of-date are reimported. Perform a manual Check Status before performing a global or selective update because objects can become out-of-date while active in a session or if you have not recently verified them.
You can update the TIMs and the ATB-enabled features even if a new copy of the reference model exists in a different location. If the original model does not exist in the original import directory, use the atb_search_path configuration option to set the path to the updated reference file location. ATB finds the new reference model and updates the TIMs and the ATB-enabled features appropriately.
If the original reference model file exists in the original import directory, and you do not want to remove this file, use Change Link to select the updated reference file in the new path. If not, ATB refers to the old reference model file and location. ATB does not update the TIMs and the ATB-enabled features because the original import directory is always searched before the paths designated as values for the instances of the atb_search_path configuration option are searched.
For CADDS 5 TIMs, the CVPATH directories are searched in the order they are defined by the CVPATH environment variable, regardless of the directory into which the CADDS 5 model was initially imported.
If you modify the assembly tree of a TIM assembly in the Creo Parametric environment, some of your changes may be lost during the assembly update.
For Check Status and Update, Creo Parametric follows the following search order when trying to locate the reference file:
Original directory into which the model was first imported or from where it was last updated.
Current working directory.
Paths defined by the atb_search_path configuration option in the order of their definition.
If the updated reference file is not located in one of these locations, or if an older version of the reference file exists in a path which precedes the path to the updated reference file in the search order:
ATB does not locate the reference file and lists it as having a broken link.
ATB incorrectly identifies the imported geometry as up-to-date based on the old reference file which is found before the updated reference file.

Make sure to place the updated reference file in a location that will result in a proper update.
You cannot update legacy Translated Image Models (TIMs) of SolidWorks and NX parts and assemblies in Creo Parametric 3.0. A Check Status of the legacy TIMs shows that they are out-of-date. When you attempt to update the out-of-date legacy TIMs in Creo Parametric 3.0, the update fails and results in TIMs with broken links. If you again attempt to check the status of the SolidWorks and NX TIMs that were created in the previous versions of Creo Parametric, the legacy TIMs continue to show the broken links. A message warns you that you cannot use the translators that are available in the current version of Creo Parametric to update the legacy SolidWorks and NX TIMs. Check Status or the ATB information of the legacy TIMs with broken links indicate that the TIM models were created in the previous versions of Creo Parametric.
