About Dynamic Checkout
Check out on-the-fly or dynamic checkout allows you to automatically check out any downloaded object when you attempt to modify the object. Dynamic checkout lets you interact with Windchill PDM during the modeling operations by providing you with options in the Conflicts dialog box to check out the object, keep it as read-only, or continue modifying the object in the local workspace.
The Conflicts dialog box opens when you try to modify an object that is not checked out. You can choose to check out the object that you intend to modify, keep the object as read-only, or continue to modify the object in your local workspace. For example, to view the Family Table information of an object that is not checked out in session or update its parameter values, you can click Tools > Family Table or Tools > Parameters, respectively. The corresponding Family Table dialog box or the Parameters dialog box opens in the read-only mode. When you try to edit information by clicking Edit in the Family Table dialog box or the Parameters dialog box, the Conflicts dialog box opens and prompts you to check out the object, to keep it as read-only, or continue modifying the object in the local workspace.
If you choose to modify a checked in object in the local workspace, another user can check out the same object and reserve it for modifications. As a good practice, you must always check out an object that you intend to modify. If you modify a checked in object, then you cannot upload this object unless you check out the object.
In Windchill, only one user can modify an object in a workspace at a given instance. If another user has checked out the same CAD document, then the first user cannot commit the changes to the server by using the upload or the checkin commands.

* Dynamic checkout is only available on primary servers.
