A layout feature is a type of data sharing feature created by referencing geometry from a layout. The layout geometry is placed in the assembly or part using regular component placement constraints.

When you create a layout feature, only Public content in the layout can be included in the feature. Entities that are not designated as Public are not visible for backup. You can select layout nodes, tags, datums, sublayouts, and geometric entities. The first step in creating the feature is to position the layout in the assembly. All references from the layout, not only those included as copied geometry, can be used as placement references.

To create a layout feature you must first place it in the assembly. You then select the layout entities, to reference. Entities are selected by selecting tags, nodes, datums, sublayouts, or individual entities. You can create multiple layout features in an assembly or part. Multiple layout features can be created from a single layout, or from different layouts. When you reference a layout feature, you can reference the layout feature’s geometry or directly reference the layout model through the layout feature.
