To Copy and Paste Annotations
You can reuse the existing annotations by copy and pasting the annotations within the same model or across different models. You can select individual annotations as well as annotation elements from multiple features. Copy and Paste Special operations of individual annotations are supported from one part model to another part model only.
When copying a stack of annotations, you can choose to copy the entire stack or just the selected annotations from the stack, which is then mapped and placed on another parent annotation in the target model. This behavior is managed by the configuration option full_stack_copy_on_indv_ann_sel yes no*.
*
Copy and paste operations are not supported for driving dimension annotation elements, datum target annotation elements, annotations from external inheritance.
Copy and paste of annotations across different models is supported for standalone and annotation feature-owned annotations.
Copy and paste of annotations within the same model is supported for annotation feature-owned annotations.
To copy and paste annotations, do the following:
In the source model:
Select annotation from the from the Model Tree or graphics window and do any one of the following:
Click Copy in the Model tab.
Select the annotation in Model Tree or in graphics window, right-click and select Copy from the shortcut menu.
In the target model or the same model:
Right-click and select .
When performing the operation across different models, a docked window with the source model (not available for copy and paste within same model) and the Advanced Reference Configuration dialog box opens. Child annotations in the source model are highlighted in the docked window.
On completing the placement of child annotations, new type of annotation feature is created in the target model. Regular annotation elements from other features cannot be created or moved to this new annotation feature.
Copying child Annotations without parents
When copying child annotation without parents, after pasting the selected annotations the Annotation Placement dialog box opens. Click Change Placement for the highlighted annotation and then place the annotation on the target model.
Controlling the dependency of the annotations
You can control the dependency of the annotations being copied. By default, the copied annotations are set as dependent. The default state for copied annotation is controlled by the configuration option copy_individual_annotations dependent*, independent.
The dependency scope includes content, cosmetic, and parameter dependencies, while excluding placement and semantic reference dependencies. References will be mapped only at the beginning, and subsequent references will not be dependent on the parent annotation.
To change the dependency status, do one of the following:
Right click on the annotation in the Model Tree and select Make Independent.
Select the annotation feature from the Model Tree, click Edit Definition from the context menu. The Annotation Feature dialog box opens. In the Dependency column clear the check box for the selected annotation (the check box for annotation is selected by default).
For annotations, if copy and paste special is done within the same model and if a dependent annotation is selected, then Select Parent Annotation command is available. This command clears the previous selection and highlights the parent annotation, making it easier to identify and select the source annotation within the same model.
If the source annotations are deleted, suppressed, excluded, or failed (including source annotation feature suppressed) the response behavior is controlled by the configuration option nmgr_source_annotation_missing. When the configuration option is set to warning or warning_with_message the dependent copied annotations are flagged in the Model Tree. You can review and resolve such annotations.
*
Dependent annotations include two parameters, PTC_COPY_AE_ORIGIN and PTC_COPY_AE_ORIGIN_TYPE, to indicate their source.
