About Opening CAD Documents in Creo Applications
You can open Windchill CAD Documents in Creo applications from the Creo embedded browser or a standalone browser. You can also open Windchill CAD Documents in their native Creo applications from their locations in the workspace or the commonspace of the Windchill server.
For example, from a Creo embedded browser or a standalone browser, you can open a CAD Document of file type .prt in its native Creo Parametric application To open a Windchill CAD Documents from a standalone browser, you must log into the standalone browser. Activating the workspace on the registered server is optional.
You can access the browser actions to open Windchill CAD Documents from the following locations where Windchill CAD Documents are visible in the Creo embedded browser or the standalone browser:
• The workspace
• The Folder page
• The search results page
• The CAD Document Property Page (CDPP)
After you select Windchill CAD Documents in a server location, you can use one of the following options in the Creo embedded browser or the standalone browser to open the Windchill CAD Documents in the Creo application that is in session:
• The
Open Filtered in Creo action from the
Actions column of the
Windchill CAD Document.
• The > option from the Actions menu.
• The > action on the shortcut menu that opens when you right-click the Windchill CAD Documents on the Windchill page.
With Open Filtered in Creo, you can open the Windchill CAD Documents in Creo applications such as Creo Parametric, and Creo Simulate.
Opening an Assembly from a Workspace with a Partial Set of Dependents
The Open Filtered action in Creo streamlines working with assemblies directly from the workspace by excluding dependents not added to the workspace, without marking them as missing.
This action is available only from the Windchill workspace page (embedded browser only) and works with Windchill 13.1.0.0 and later.
Dependents not included in the workspace during the Open Filtered process will not be automatically added from Windchill Commonspace. Instead, they will be excluded by updating the internal simplified representation definition in real-time. These excluded dependents are not considered missing references, and the retrieved assembly will remain unmodified during the session.
To open subsets in Creo, complete the following steps:
1. Navigate to the Workspace and select an assembly to open.
2. Click
Open Filtered in Creo. The assembly opens without checking out, and the missing items are automatically excluded, similar to creating a simplified representation on the fly. These items are excluded without being added from the commonspace.
Limitations
The following are the limitations of the Open Filtered action,
1. The Open Filtered action is available only for design assemblies. It cannot be applied to other types of assemblies or components.
2. The exclusion of dependents is limited to Creo Unite dependents, assemblies, and sub-assemblies only. This means that any dependents specific to Creo will be excluded as per the defined process. Any missing Creo Unite dependents, assemblies, and sub-assemblies will not be excluded. Instead, they will be automatically added to the Workspace.
