Copy Geometry from a Composite Feature
In the Composite environment, you can use the copy geometry feature to copy custom geometry from an external composite feature to the active composite feature.
To specify the composite design references for the external copy geometry, you can use the active part or a different part. The reference part must contain at least one regenerated composite feature. You can also use a part with a failed composite feature.
You can define a publish geometry feature inside the Composite environment and use it to create a copy geometry feature. When you define a publish geometry feature, you can select only the items that are internal to the composite feature, such as all datum entities, curves, quilts, edges, plies, or cores. Specify and copy the geometry from a composite feature as follows:
1. When working in the Composite environment, select the Model tab.
2. Click Copy Geometry. The Copy Geometry tab opens.
3. Under Reference Type, click External.
4. Click Open. The Open dialog box opens.
5. Browse to the directory, select the part that contains the composite feature, and click Open. The Placement dialog box opens. The name of the part appears in the Reference model collector.
6. Click OK on the Placement dialog box.
7. Under Content, click Composite.
*
The Composite command will be available only when the referenced part contains at least one regenerated composite feature.
8. Click Yes in the Warning dialog box.
9. Select a composite feature as follows:
When the part contains only one composite feature, it is selected by default.
When the part contains more than one composite feature, the Select Composite Feature dialog box opens. Select a composite feature and click Open.
10. Click OK on the Placement dialog box. The name of the referenced part and the name of the composite feature appear in the Reference model collector. The geometry of the referenced composite feature is displayed in the secondary window.
11. Select the geometry and references to copy from the secondary window in one of the following ways:
Click the Publish geometry reference collector and select a publish geometry feature on the secondary window.
Click Publish Geometry to clear its selection. In the References tab, specify the surface sets, bodies, chains, or references to copy from the secondary window.
12. Click OK.
13. Select the Composite tab.
