About Updating Layout and Data Sharing Features
You can create data sharing features with one of the following update options:
• Automatic update—Updates the data sharing feature automatically when the referenced geometry is updated and in session.
• Manual update—Allows manual update of the data sharing feature when the referenced geometry is updated and in session. When the Provide notification checkbox is selected, a notification appears on the icon of the data sharing feature in the Model Tree when the referenced geometry is updated.
• No dependency—Dependency to the reference model is broken and you will not be able to update the data sharing feature. Once you create the feature, this action is not reversible. The data sharing feature with no dependency is identified by a unique icon in the Model Tree:
◦
—A copy geometry feature with no dependency.
◦
—A merge feature with no dependency.
◦
—An inheritance feature with no dependency.
◦
—A Shrinkwrap feature with no dependency.
When you create a layout feature or a copy geometry feature, you can set it to update when the referenced layout or geometry changes. Update of the original layout or referenced geometry can be changed at any time when you edit the definition of the feature. When the layout or referenced geometry is in session you can:
• Be notified of a change to the referenced geometry.
• Review the differences between the referenced geometry and the layout or copy geometry feature.
• Choose to update the layout or copy geometry feature or not.
• Enter Design Exploration to see the implications of a change before you commit to it.
You can create a layout feature with one of the following update options:
• Fully dependent with automatic update—Updates the layout feature when the original layout is updated and in session.
• Dependent with manual update—Allows manual update of the layout feature when the original layout is updated and in session.
• No dependency—Does not update the layout feature.
