Design Tree
The Design Tree is a part of the Model Tree. It includes nodes such as Materials, Bodies, Quilts, and Custom Groups. You can split the Design Tree from the Model Tree to work independently with both trees.
Within the Design Tree, you can switch between the Design Items view and the Quilt/Body Evolution view. In the Quilt/Body Evolution view shows a list of all active bodies or quilts present in a model and their contributing features. In this tree, the evolution of geometry and relationship to other bodies or quilts defined by boolean and transition features such as Boolean, Merge, Thicken, Solidify and so on is presented as a hierarchical tree structure underneath each feature.
The Model Tree filters, and column definitions apply to both design tree view and quilt/body evolution view for consistent workflow.
To Display the Design Tree
In the Model Tree, click > , the Design Tree appears adjacent to the Model Tree.
The top node of the Design Tree represents the entire model and it is the part file that is open in the active window.
The following icons appear in the Design Tree:
•
—Display the design items view.
•
—Switch to Quilt/Body Evolution view.
•
—Expand the selected branch by one level in the Design Tree.
•
—Collapse all the branches in the Design Tree.
•
—Show or hide the additional Design Tree columns. The

button is available when you add columns to the Design Tree.
•
—Create custom groups to create a custom structure, of the model, independent of the regeneration sequence of the features.
•
—The evolution filter setting is available only for the Quilt/Body Evolution view. It shows the evolution structure of quilts and bodies, including custom groups, system containers, and contributing features.
•
—Show a snapshot of the body or quilt geometry that resulted from the selected feature. By default, this option is enabled, and the snapshot of the body or quilt automatically appears in the graphics window.
•
—Filter items in the Design Tree. The Tree Filter is not available if the
Evolution Filter is selected.
•
—Add or remove columns to display in the Design Tree.
•
—Specify the tree options like,
Settings, and
Interactions.
Design Tree Structure
Design Items
—The
Design Items is the top node of the tree structure. The top node contains nodes, such as Materials, Bodies, Quilts, and Custom Groups. They appear based on their creation.
• Materials
• Quilts
The quilt node shows the name of the quilt and the name of the feature that created it. If the feature name is changed, the change is reflected in the quilt node as well.
• Bodies
• Annotations
• Tables
• Custom Groups
| • A Custom Groups header node is created, and the custom groups are placed under this header node. • You can reorder the header nodes such as Bodies, Quilts, Custom Groups, Materials. • You cannot reorganize the items in the nodes, except for the items in the Custom Groups. For example, you cannot change the order of the bodies in the Bodies node. |
Drag and Drop Items
You can drag and drop bodies, quilts, and features from the Design Tree to Custom Groups in Design Tree or Custom Groups under Design Items in Model Tree. You can also drag and drop features from the Model Tree to Custom Groups in Design Tree.
• When you drag items, where they cannot be dropped, the pointer indicates that the action is not supported by changing the icon to

.
• When you drag and drop items from Design tree, the items are placed in the custom group, they are not removed from Design tree.
• You cannot duplicate items in a custom group.
Search and Filter of the Design Tree Nodes
A search box is available on the Design Tree for the search or filter of the Design nodes.
You can select the Simple Search check box from the

list on the Design Tree to hide or show the search box.
You can switch between the filter

and the search

options that are available adjacent to the search box on the Design Tree.
•
—Searches for nodes on the Design Tree and highlights the found nodes on the tree without filtering them.
•
—Filters nodes on the Design Tree and highlights the filtered nodes on the Design Tree. This option is active by default.
Click

in the search box to clear queries and their result.
