To Convert the Geometry Type of Welds and Edge Preparations
You can convert the weld geometry representation between light, surface, and solid, and the edge preparation geometry representation between light and solid. Use one of the following procedures.
Using the Convert Command
1. Click > . The Welding tab opens.
2. Click
Convert. The
Convert Welds dialog box opens.
All the weld and edge preparation features that are represented by the geometry shown in the Convert from field are listed under Features.
3. Use one of these methods to select the weld and edge preparation features to convert:
◦ Select features in the list under Features.
▪ To select features with the geometry type shown next to Convert from, under Features, select welding features and edge preparation features.
▪ To select features with a different geometry representation, next to Convert from, select a geometry representation, and then select welding features or edge preparation features.
◦ Click
and select features in the graphics window.
◦ Click
to select all the features in the list for the geometry type next to
Convert from. Click
to deselect all features.
| You can convert multiple features. |
4. Next to Convert to, select the geometry representation to which to convert the selected weld and edge preparation features.
5. Next to Filter, select the check boxes for the type of feature to convert, Weld features, Edge preparations, or both.
6. If applicable, select the Convert dependent objects check box to simultaneously convert the dependent features (children) of the weld or edge preparation features. The Children list only contains welding-related dependent features (children).
7. Click OK. There are two possible results:
◦ The selected weld or edge preparation features convert.
◦ A warning message appears that tells you a feature cannot automatically convert. You could also receive this message if you use the
Convert command on the shortcut menu.
If a warning message appears, you can click Manual Convert in the message window, and redefine the feature for the new type of geometry.
The following are the most common cases in which manual conversion is required:
▪ Converting a feature that has been combined
▪ Converting a feature that has been patterned
▪ Primary references of the feature being converted are missing
▪ Symbol attachment of the feature being converted is missing
▪ Converting an edge preparation feature to surface representation
▪ Converting a spot weld feature to solid representation
▪ Converting a weld or edge preparation feature to solid representation in versions earlier than Pro/Engineer 22
