About the Spot Weld User Interface
The Spot Weld tab consists of commands, tabs, and shortcut menus. Click Applications > Welding. On the Welding tab, click Spot Weld.
Commands
The commands are context sensitive.
Spot By
Multi Point—Creates spot welds using multiple datum points as references, including datum points in sketches, patterns, and project features that contain points.
Pitch Welding—Creates a row of spot welds using one datum point as the reference for the spot weld leader, and creating more instances by defining the direction of the row, the number of welds, and the spacing between the welds.
Connection
Available in assemblies.
—Creates a connection between the Weld feature and a Joint Members feature.
Joint Members feature collector—Collects the Joint Members feature to contain the Weld feature.
References
Multi Point
References collector—Collects datum points, and features and sketches that contain datum points, to use their points as references for the spot weld locations.
Pitch Welding
Point—Collects one datum point as the reference for the spot weld feature leader, from which additional spot weld instances are created.
Direction—Collects a straight curve or edge, plane, planar surface, or axis to define the direction of the row of spot welds.
—Flips the pitch direction 180 degrees.
Pitch By
Available when Pitch Welding is selected.
Number of welds—Defines the number of spot welds in the spot weld feature.
Spacing
—Defines the distance between two adjacent spot weld instances in the same row, measured from the center of one weld to the center of the other weld.
Dimensioning Scheme
Diameter—Creates a spot weld based on diameter.
Diameter value box—Sets a value for the weld diameter.
Strength—Creates a spot weld based on spot strength. When Strength is selected, use the default_spot_dia parameter to set the display size.
Strength value box—Sets a value for the weld strength.
Area—Creates a spot weld based on cross-sectional area.
Area value box—Sets a value for the cross-sectional area.
Side Significance
—Defines the weld as side significant.
—Defines the weld as not side significant.
Tabs
Location
Multi Point
Location collector—Displays multiple datum points that define the weld location.
Pitch Welding
Location collector—Displays multiple datum points that define the weld location.
Direction Reference collector—Collects one reference to define the direction for pitched spot welds.
Flip—Flips the pitch direction 180 degrees.
Number of welds box—Sets the number of pitched spot welds to create.
Spacing box—Sets the distance between the centers of the pitched spot welds.
Placement
Multi Point
References collector—Collects datum points, features that contain points, and sketches that contain points, to use their points to define the spot weld locations.
Spots table
Spot weld placement filter:
—Shows only the spot welds with broken references.
—Turns off the filter and shows all the spot welds in the feature.
Spot column—Lists the spot weld instances created from all the reference points, features, and sketches, with one row for each weld.
The name of the spot weld instances can be edited in the Weld and Joint Tree.
Reference column—Lists the reference point for each spot weld.
Surface collector—Shows the reference surface for the point that is selected in the Spots table.
Pitch Welding
Point Reference collector—Collects one datum point as the placement reference for the spot weld feature leader, from which additional spot weld instances are created.
Surface collector—Shows the reference surface for the placement point of the spot weld feature leader.
Spots table—Lists the spot weld instances created in the feature.
Options
Weld geometry type—Sets the weld representation to either surface or light geometry.
Weld material—Selects a predefined welding material.
Define—Opens the Weld Materials dialog box.
Weld process—Selects a predefined welding process.
Define—Opens the Weld Processes dialog box.
Field weld—Defines a weld as a field weld.
Finish list (ANSI only)—Defines a weld finish.
Finish check box (ISO only)—Sets the weld finish option to ISO standards.
Contour list—Defines a weld contour.
Weld Sequence
Display sequence ID check box—Shows or hides the sequence ID number in the welding symbol tail.
Keep ID in sequence check box—Keeps the weld ID number the same regardless of subsequent actions (such as deleting previously defined weld features or reordering welds to different locations in the regeneration order).
Connection
Joint Members collector—Collects a Joint Members feature to which to add the welds.
Symbol
Display identification line check box—Displays the identification line in the weld symbol. Available for ISO welds.
Below reference line—Places the identification line in the weld symbol below the reference line.
Above reference line—Places the identification line in the weld symbol above the reference line.
Create as Other Side symbol check box—Creates the symbol to represent the spot weld on the other side of the joint.
Next leader—Sets the placement method for the next leader.
Attachment collector—Collects a planar reference on which to place the symbol.
Preview—Displays an image of the welding symbol.
Add Note—Contains the text you type for a user-defined note.
Properties
Name box—Sets the weld name.
—Opens the Feature info window for a weld feature.
Feature Parameters Define button—Opens the Parameters dialog box for a weld feature.
Shortcut Menus
Shortcut menu commands are context sensitive depending on the location of your cursor.
While the Spot Weld tab is open, right-click the graphics window any place except over a handle to display the following shortcut menu commands:
Multi-Point—Creates spot welds using multiple datum points as references, including datum points in sketches, patterns, and project features that contain points.
Pitch Welding—Creates a row of spot welds using one datum point as the reference for the spot weld leader, and creating more instances by defining the direction of the row, the number of welds, and the spacing between the welds
Weld Location—Activates the Location collector so you can collect datum points to define spot weld locations.
Weld Spot Point Surface—Activates the Surface collector so you can collect a surface reference for each point.
Direction Reference—Activates the Direction Reference collector for pitch welding.
