To Offset a Chain Along a Surface
1. Perform one of the following actions:
◦ Select a chain of curves or edges, and click > .
◦ Click > , click
Chain, and then select a chain of curves or edges.
The selected chain appears in the Offset chain collector on the References tab.
| If you are using a chain set as a reference and you want to modify it, click Details on the References tab and use the Chain dialog box. |
2. Under
Offset Method, select
Along Surface to offset the chain in the direction along the reference surface.
3. When you select a chain, the quilt or surface on which the offset chain is located is automatically selected as the reference surface.
If you want to select a different surface, right-click the

reference surface collector, click
Remove, and select a reference quilt or surface.
4. Enter an offset value in the
Offset box.
5. Click

to flip the direction of the offset, if needed.
6. On the
Measurements tab, specify the measurement type as either

(normal to curve) or
![](../../part_modeling/part_modeling/images/measure_parallel_to_plane.png)
(parallel to plane). If you select

, you must select a reference plane.
7. Click
OK to complete the offset chain.
