To Create a Planar Cross Section Using the Default Coordinate System
1. Open a part.
2. On the
View tab, click the arrow next to
Section. A list opens.
3. To open the Section tool with reference set to one of the axes of the default coordinate system, click one of the following buttons.
a. X Direction — Sets the reference to the X axis.
b. Y Direction — Sets the reference to the Y axis.
c. Z Direction — Sets the reference to the Z axis.
The Section tab opens and a cross section is automatically created using the corresponding plane of the coordinate system. For example, if you have selected Y Direction, then the cross section is created on the ZX plane.
A Line dragger appears at the origin of the coordinate system. The Line dragger is normal to the clipping plane and indicates the clipping direction.
| Creo Parametric automatically creates a default coordinate system if the model does not have one. |
4. To create a cross section at an offset from the selected reference, do the following:
a. Click and type a value for the offset distance.
b. To change the reference, select an axis from the
list on the
Section tab. Alternatively, you can directly pick an axis in the graphics window.
| If you directly select an axis, only the Offset constraint is available. |
5. To create a cross section passing through the selected reference, do the following:
a. Select the constraint type
Through from the
list.
b. Select one of the following planes:
▪ XY—Places the cross section through the xy-plane defined through the x- and y-axes of the datum coordinate axis.
▪ YZ—Places the cross section through the yz-plane defined through the y- and z-axes of the datum coordinate axis. This is the default.
▪ ZX—Places the cross section through the zx-plane defined through the z- and x-axes of the datum coordinate axis.
6. Click
to change the clipping direction.
7. Change the location of the cross section by using the dragger or click
to enable free positioning of the clipping plane. When free positioning is enabled, you can translate and rotate the orientation of the clipping plane using the dragger.
8. Click
or middle-click. The cross section is added to the Model Tree.
