About Selection Methods
Creo supports the following methods for selecting objects in Part mode and Assembly mode:
• Box Selection—Select surfaces enclosed within the selection box (when visible only is set), or select all based on the type selected in the selection filter.
• Lasso Selection—Select surfaces enclosed within the defined loop.
• Trace Selection—Select surfaces that are traced over.
The selection methods are available on the status bar. To select surfaces, choose the selection method from the list, and then click and drag the pointer across a specific area in the graphics window. To select different entities, use the selection filter located on the status bar.

Trace selection and Lasso selection are available only when the selection filter is set to Surfaces
|
• When making multiple selections, press the Ctrl key and drag the pointer across the model. To unselect, press the Ctrl key and click the surface to unselect.
• When selecting surfaces using the Seed and Boundary method, you can easily select the bounding surfaces by using the Trace or Lasso method.
• When working with surface regions, selecting all the surface regions using any one of the selection methods converts the multiple surface regions into a single surface.
• When working with a quilt with multiple surfaces, selecting all the surfaces of the quilt using any one of the selection methods converts it to a single quilt.
Box Selection
This is the default selection method. Following are the two ways of dragging the box:
• Drag the box from left to right—Creates a rectangle box; all entities that lie inside the box are selected.
• Drag the box from right to left—Creates a dashed line rectangle box; the surfaces intersecting the selection box and enclosed within the box are selected.
For the box selection, you can toggle between selecting only visible surfaces and selecting all entities. By default, the selection is set to selecting all surfaces, which includes all visible and non-visible entities based on the object type selected in the selection filter. To change the setting to select only the visible surfaces, click
located on the status bar.
To select surfaces using a box selection:
1. In the status bar, select Box from the list.
2. In the graphics window, click the left-mouse button and drag the pointer to create the selection box.
3. Release the mouse button.

Lasso Selection
In this selection method, you can select surfaces by creating a free form that defines a loop.
To select surfaces using a lasso selection:
1. In the status bar, select Lasso from the list.
2. In the graphics window, click the left-mouse button and drag the mouse pointer to draw a free form and create a loop. All surfaces enclosed in the selection region are selected.
3. Release the mouse button.

Trace Selection
In this selection method you can trace over a geometry and select surfaces. Only visible surfaces that are traced over are selected.
To select surfaces using a trace selection:
1. In the status bar, select Trace from the list.
2. In the graphics window, click the left-mouse button and drag the mouse pointer to create a trace line over a surface. Surfaces covered by the trace line are selected.
3. Release the mouse button.
