Fundamentals > Relations and Parameters > Parameters > Using the Parameters Dialog Box
Using the Parameters Dialog Box
You can access the Parameters dialog box by clicking Tools > Parameters on the Creo Parametric ribbon. However, while working with NC or CMM objects, you can open the Parameters dialog box by clicking Setup > Parameters on the menu manager.
Use the Parameters dialog box to:
Search for parameters
Select parameters
Use filters
Delete parameters
Use parameter table information
Work with rows and columns
To view the properties of a parameter, select a parameter in the Parameters dialog box and click Properties to open the Parameter Properties dialog box.
You can update the value of an existing parameter and use to regenerate the model without leaving the Parameters dialog box.
Searching for Parameters
Use or Edit > Find in the Parameters dialog box to search for parameters either by name, value, or any other property. You can select the following parameter properties in the Search dialog box:
Owner
Owner Type
Model
AE Type
Name
Type
Value
Unit
Designated
Access
Source
Description
Restricted
You can search for parameter types by typing the first letter or the first few letters of its value followed by an asterisk (*). For example, NAME = len* displays parameter names starting with the letters len in the Parameters dialog box.
Selecting Parameters
You can select parameters in the Parameters dialog box in the following ways:
Right-click any cell of the parameter definition and click Select Parameter on the shortcut menu.
Right-click any cell of the parameter definition and click Select all same name parameters on the shortcut menu to select all parameters with the same name. You can subsequently edit the selected parameters by right-clicking the selected parameter and clicking Edit Parameters on the shortcut menu.
Select Only Shared in the Filter By list to view, select, and edit all the parameters shared by the multiple features selected in the Look In list.
Click the row header for the required parameter to select the entire row in the parameter table. You can also right-click the row header and use the shortcut menu to select a parameter, create a new parameter, edit parameter properties, delete a parameter, designate a parameter, specify a unit for a parameter, and view information for a parameter.
*
The row header precedes the first column of each parameter row in the parameter table.
Press CTRL as you click for selection of multiple items.
Press SHIFT as you click to select all the parameters between the first and last selected entries.
You can select multiple parameters and perform the following operations:
Operation
Condition
Result
Delete
Not applicable if a parameter is locked.
Deletes all selected parameters.
Designate
Applicable if at least one or more parameters are not designated.
Designates all selected parameters.
Undesignate
Applicable if at least one or more parameters are designated.
Undesignates all selected parameters.
Filtering Parameters
Using Filter By, you can filter the parameters by the following main categories:
All
User Defined ONLY
PDM ONLY
Designated ONLY
Type
Access
*
The Sub Items option is available only when you select Type and Access.
You can hide or show the filter by clicking Edit > Hide Filter or Edit > Show Filter, respectively.
Using Filters
You can filter the parameters either by setting the Look In value or by using the Filter By command in the Parameters dialog box.
By default, Look In is set to Part or Assembly if you are working with a part model or an assembly model, respectively. You can also select a value from the Look In list to view and select the required part, feature, inherited features, annotation element, quilt, body, surface, edge, curve, composite curve, and material level parameters for a part model. For an assembly model, you can select assembly, skeleton, and component level parameters along with the other Look In values available for a part model. Only those parameters belonging to the selected Look In value are displayed in the Parameters dialog box.
*
Except for the default Look In value, that is, Part or Assembly, you are prompted to select the corresponding entity based on the value that you have selected for Look In. For example, if you select Annotation Element, you are prompted to select an annotation element in the graphics window. Using the Look In values, you can view and select parameters only for the selected Look In entity.
Using Filter By, you can filter the parameters by the following main categories:
Default
Current and all sublevels
Current and all subfeatures
Current and all annotation features or elements
Current and all sub annotation elements
Only Shared
*
The category Only Shared is available only if you simultaneously select multiple features for editing multiple parameters.
You can hide or show a filter by clicking Edit > Hide Filter or Edit > Show Filter, respectively.
Using Customize, you can define a new filter with a set of rules for filtering the parameters according to the required criteria. You can modify only user-defined filters and not the predefined default filters. You can set the criteria to search parameter entries based on the possible combinations of column names and their permitted values in the Parameters dialog box.
Using Customize, you can also control the scope of the user-defined filter where you can apply a set of filter rules on the current context level or allow filtering in all sublevels under the current Look In object.
You can right-click a parameter in the Parameters dialog box and click Set as “Look In” on the shortcut menu to set the Look In value as the owner of the selected parameter. This command is available only for the parameters from sublevel filters and not from the default filter.
Deleting Parameters
Consider the following rules when deleting parameters:
You cannot delete a user parameter that is driven by a relation or used in a relation. You must first delete the relations where the parameter is used before deleting the parameter.
You cannot delete an individual parameter belonging to a table restricted set. However, you can delete the entire table restricted set.
If you have added a parameter column to the Model Tree, you can delete the parameter by clearing the corresponding cell on the Model Tree.
Using Parameter Table Information
Use File > Export in the Parameters dialog box to export the entire parameter table in the *.xml format, Comma Separated Value (CSV) format or in the text format. You can open such a CSV file in Microsoft Excel.
Use File > Import Data > in *.xml format in the Parameters dialog to import the parameter file in the *.xml format into the parameter table. A conflict occurs when at least one of the imported parameters has the same name as that of a parameter in the current parameter set or violates global restriction. When a conflict occurs, the Import Parameters dialog box opens displaying the following with which you can resolve the conflicts.
*
The same options are available on the Copy Parameters dialog box when a conflict occurs while pasting the copied parameters.
Options
Descriptions
Replace
Replaces the parameter value with the imported value when the parameter has a conflicting name. This is the default option.
Duplicate if cannot Replace
This check box shows selection and a parameter is created with another name when a parameter cannot be replaced because of global restrictions or when it is used in relations. When the check box is cleared, the respective parameter is skipped.
Skip
Skips the imported parameter.
Duplicate
The existing parameters remain unchanged. Duplicate parameters are created with different names.
Details
List parameters that cause naming conflicts or violate global restrictions.
Using File > Save Configuration As, you can save the configuration of a specific view of the parameter table. This configuration includes the following details:
Sort status
Filter (including the user-defined filters)
Column display
Displayed columns
Order of column display
Size of columns
Size of Parameters dialog box
Location of Parameters dialog box
Using File > Load Configuration in the Parameters dialog box, you can load the saved configuration file from the Parameters dialog box of any model.
Working with Rows and Columns
You can manipulate columns in the Parameters dialog box as follows:
You can add or remove a column in the Parameters dialog box. To add a column, click to open the Parameter Table Columns dialog box. Select the required column name from the Not Displayed section, and click . Click OK. The column is added to the Parameters dialog box. Similarly, to remove a column click , select the required column name from the Displayed section and click to transfer the column name to the Not Displayed section.
You can sort the listed parameters in ascending or descending order based on the contents of a column by clicking its column header. Clicking the column header again reverses the sort order.
You can resize the columns. Creo Parametric retains the changed column size and its position.
You can also reorder parameter rows by moving one or more rows in the upward or downward direction by clicking the arrows located at the right of the parameters table in the Parameters dialog box. The new order of parameters is retained even after the model is saved.
