About 2D Geometry
When locating points for sketched geometry (using > > > ), the GET POINT menu displays the following:
• Pick Point—Locates any point on the screen.
• Vertex—Locates a point at the endpoint as well as midpoint of an open curve (line, arc, spline), the center of an arc or circle, or the intersection between two entities.
• On Entity—Locates a point anywhere along an entity.
• Rel Coords—Locates a point relative to the last point selected by using X- and Y-coordinate values that you specify. The coordinate values are in drawing units.
• Abs Coords—Locates a point relative to the current coordinate system. By default, it is the drawing coordinate system located in the lower-left corner of the drawing.
If you set a 2D view to be the current draft view, the coordinates are measured relative to the current draft view origin.
While you are sketching, as you move the cursor, the X- and Y-coordinates of a current point on the screen display at the bottom of the Message Window. When you create an entity using two points, the following data is reported in the Message Window:
• X-coordinate
• Y-coordinate
• DX (distance between two points along the X-axis)
• DY (distance between two points along the Y-axis)
• L (shortest distance between two points)
