To Define Hole Sets
While creating a holemaking sequence, you can define hole sets by selecting a group of axes, geometry, or points to be added to the hole set.
To create a hole set by selecting axes:
1. Select Axes from the Type list on the References tab.
2. Select hole axes in the graphics window. The selected axes form a hole set.
The names of the selected axes are displayed on the Holes tabbed page of the Holes dialog box.
3. Add axes sets using a combination of rules.
4. Click Details to open the Holes dialog box.
5. Specify holes by defining an axes set using the following methods:
◦ Holes on a surface
◦ Holes of a certain diameter
◦ Holes by parameters
◦ Holes in a drill group

To create a hole set by selecting geometry:
1. Select Geometry from the Type list on the References tab.
2. Select hole geometry in the graphics window. The selected geometry forms a hole set.
The selected surface names are displayed on the Holes tabbed page of the Holes dialog box.
3. Add geometry sets using a combination of rules.
4. Click Details to open the Holes dialog box.
5. Specify holes using the following methods:
◦ Holes on a surface
◦ Holes of a certain diameter
To create a hole set by selecting points:
1. Select Points from the Type list.
◦ Select points in the graphics window. The selected points form a hole set. The names of the selected points are displayed on the Holes tabbed page of the Holes dialog box. You can add multiple point sets.

Selected points are not considered for a hole set if they are far away from the reference surface. In such cases, in the Holes dialog box, select a Projection Surface and enter the Maximum Distance of the points from the surface.

◦ You can specify points in any one of the following ways. Click Details on the Reference tab to open the Holes dialog box.
▪ Individual Points
▪ Datum Point Features
▪ Points on Surfaces
Select Excluded Points to exclude selected points on a surface or feature.
To specify hole depth
Once you have defined the hole sets, specify depth as follows:
1. Select manual or automatic from the Start and End lists to specify depth. For manual definition a collector becomes active to select to select the start and end references for the cycle. You can also use options on the Depth tab of the Holes dialog box to specify these depths.
◦ Start
▪ —Select the start surface automatically.
▪ —Select a start surface for drilling.
| Automatic selection of the drilling start surface is not available for geometry hole sets. For such holes select to specify the start surface for drilling. |
◦ End
▪ —Select the drilling depth automatically.
| Automatic selection of drilling depth is not applicable for point hole sets and geometry hole sets. |
▪ —Select a surface or plane as the depth for drilling.
▪ —Drills a through hole.
▪ —Drills to the specified drilling depth.
◦ The following additional options are available on the Depth tab of the Holes dialog box:
▪ Use Breakout Distance—Uses the BREAKOUT_DISTANCE parameter value when calculating depth.
▪ Measure—Selects the drilling option with reference to the tool tip or the shoulder of the tool.
2. The Options tab of the Holes dialog box enables you to select or remove reference parts or workpieces to be used for depth calculation.
In the dropdown list, select an option from the following:
◦ All Models—Considers all models. Fixtures are excluded. The Models collector is updated with the names of all models excluding fixtures.
◦ Reference Part and Workpiece—Considers the reference part and the workpiece.
The Models collector is updated with the names of the reference part and workpiece.
This option is available only if there are also some models that are not assembled as a reference part, workpiece, or fixture in a manufacturing assembly.
◦ User defined Models—Enables you to select the models. The selected models are displayed in the Models collector.
The selected models are used when calculating the drilling depth automatically based on the selected references.
Define the following options:
◦ Start Hole—Selects the first hole to be machined if the SCAN_TYPE parameter is set to SHORTEST or TYPE_SPIRAL.
◦ Orient Rule—Selects a reference to define the drilling direction for holes.
◦ Orient Holes—Changes the drilling direction of individual holes.
