To Change the Orientation of a Linear Dimension
You can change the orientation of a linear dimension that is created using any of the following entities as references:
A single linear entity.
Two explicit point entities.
Center or any tangent point of any two circles, arcs, or ellipses.
An explicit point and a center or any tangent point of a circle, arc, or ellipse.
1. Select a linear driven or reference dimension, for which you want to change the orientation. The Dimension ribbon tab becomes active.
2. Click Orientation, and select one of the following orientation type from the list:
Horizontal — To place the selected dimension horizontally. The horizontal distance between the dimension reference points is the value of the dimension.
Vertical — To place the selected dimension vertically. The vertical distance between the dimension reference points is the value of the dimension.
Slanted — To place the selected dimension with slanted orientation. The shortest distance between the dimension reference points is the value of the dimension.
Parallel To — Select a reference entity, to place the dimension parallel to the selected reference entity. The distance in the direction parallel to the selected entity is the value of the dimension.
Perpendicular To — Select a reference entity, to places the dimension normal to the selected reference entity. The distance in the direction normal to the selected entity is the value of the dimension.
Concentric — This option is available only when the dimension is created using two arc or two circles that share a common center, as references.
3. Click in the graphics area to confirm the reorientation of the selected linear dimension.
*
You can select only one linear dimension, for which you can change the orientation. If you select multiple linear dimensions, the orientation option is not available for selection.
You cannot change the dimension orientation for linear dimensions created using combination of references as : between two parallel lines, between a line and an arc or circle, and so on.
You can change the orientation of a linear dimension created using point references. You can change the orientation to horizontal, vertical, slanted, parallel, or perpendicular to, using the Orientation option on the Dimension ribbon tab.
*
You can change the orientation of only driven and reference dimensions created using point references.
When you change the orientation of a dimension, the driven value of the dimension may also change.
