To Create a Copy Geometry Feature
You can create a Copy Geometry feature in part, skeleton, and assembly models.
1. Open an assembly or a part.
2. Click
Copy Geometry. The
Copy Geometry tab opens.
3. To create a local copy geometry feature that references geometry from the open assembly, click
In Context. To create a local copy geometry feature that references geometry from the open part, click
Local.
4. To create an external copy geometry feature, click
External. The following commands become available:
◦ Open—Select a model to copy references.
◦ Edit Placement—Specify placement of the external copy geometry feature.
5. To create a copy geometry feature from a predefined published geometry feature, make sure
Publish Geometry is selected, this is the default option. The published geometry feature can be from an external model, or from the assembly.

6. To define the copy geometry without using a predefined Published Geometry feature, click
Publish Geometry to deactivate the publish geometry reference collector (activated by default). The reference model opens in an accessory window and a second Model Tree for the reference model is displayed.
7. Define at least one of the following reference elements:
◦ Surface Sets—Select surfaces.
◦ Bodies—Select bodies. This option is available only when creating a copy geometry feature in a part.
To create a Copy Geometry feature that includes all bodies in the part follow the steps below:
a. Click the Bodies collector.
b. Select the part in the Model Tree, or in the graphics window. (To select from the graphics window set the selection filter to Part.)

◦ Chains—Select edges or curves.
◦ References—Select various reference features.
8. Click Details to add a rule for reference collection, view, add, or remove a reference from the list of references.
9. To update the feature geometry relative to the reference geometry, click
Update .
10. Click References to select the reference model or a publish geometry feature, and to select and edit annotations display.
11. Click Options to define surface copying options, to select the properties to include in the feature, and set feature update options:
◦ Surface Copying Options—These options are available only when the Copy Geometry feature is defined by a surface set. These options are disabled when the reference model is a Published Geometry feature.
▪ Copy all surfaces as is (default)—Creates an exact copy of the selected surfaces.
▪ Exclude surfaces and Fill holes—Activates two collectors:
▪ Exclude Contours—Select surfaces to be excluded from the current copy feature.
▪ Fill holes/surfaces—Select holes on the selected surfaces to be filled.
▪ Copy inside boundary—Defines a boundary containing the surfaces to be copied.
◦ Include Properties—Defines the types of properties to include with the copied geometry entities. All properties in the list that follows are copied by default. Clear the check box of a property you do not want to copy to the target.
▪ Appearance—Appearances from the source geometry are applied to the copied geometry.
▪ Parameters—Parameters of the copied entities.
▪ Names—Names. When cleared, generic names are provided for copied entities.
▪ Layers—Layer assignment and places the copied entities on layers with the same name when they exist in the target part.
The following options are available for a copy geometry feature in a part when bodies are selected as the reference.
▪ Materials—Material assignment. When the material does not exist in the target part, it is copied to the target part and assigned to the newly created body. When cleared, the newly created body is assigned the master material of the target part and you can be explicitly assign a material to the copied body in the target.

▪ Construction yes/no—Copies the construction attribute of a body, whether the body is a construction body or not. When cleared, the body is created in the target part as a regular body.
◦ Copied Geometry Update—Sets update preferences for the Copy Geometry feature.
▪ Automatic Update—Automatically updates the copy geometry feature when the source geometry is modified and in session.
▪ Manual Update—Does not automatically update the copied geometry feature when the source geometry is modified. You can update the copy geometry feature at any time as long as the original geometry is in session. Click the Provide notification check box to receive a notification when the source geometry is updated.
▪ No Dependency—Creates an independent copy geometry feature.
◦ Click Refit Datums to automatically refit the included datum planes and axes to the target part outline.
12. Click Properties to change the default, feature name.
13. Click
to complete the Copy Geometry feature.
