Creating a Retrieval Performance Report
Before you can perform a retrieval performance report, follow the steps below.
1. Click File > Options > Environment.
2. Select the Measure retrieval time check box under Performance Reporting.
You can set the measure_retrieval_time configuration option instead.
It is recommended to start the investigation from a clean session. First, turn on retrieval tracking and only then retrieve a model to session. The order of retrieval matters, for a full retrieval, retrieve the top-level assembly in the Master Representation.
1. Open a model.
2. Open the Performance Report dialog box using one of the steps below:
In any open model, click Tools > Investigate > Performance Report.
In an open assembly, click Model > Investigate > Performance Report.
The Performance Report dialog box opens.
3. Click Retrieval. The retrieval times (in seconds) for each component displays. The following nodes also display:
Miscellaneous—Represents retrieval related time which is not currently accounted for by specific objects.
File Operations—Represents the time spent on interacting with the model’s files. This includes creating, reading, and deleting temporary files when required.
Regeneration—Represents the time it takes to regenerate mechanisms, relations, and other features. Other features includes time that cannot be identified with specific components such as Assembly cuts, Family Tables, Pro/Program, and flexible components.
Graphics—Represents the time it takes to display the model’s graphics after retrieving the model.
Dependencies—Represents the time it takes to retrieve dependent models such as models referenced in Data Sharing features, relations, and Notebooks.
The order in which the generic and an instance of a Family Table are retrieved impact the retrieval time reported for the models.
4. To view a flat list of components, click Flat List. You can show the top-level components or all levels of components.
5. To view the assembly component information, click Statistics. A list of the different types of components in the assembly displays with the number of components for each type.
Suppressed and excluded components are not included in the statistics.
