You can define a region within an existing docuplane that shrinks the focus of that docuplane. Detail and partial docuplanes show a particular area of an existing docuplane to provide greater clarity.
A "sub-docuplane" is defined by a closed contour (circular, polygonal, B-splinar) on the parent docuplane. Two types of sub-docuplane are available:
• Partial docuplanes replace the original docuplane with one focused on the smaller region. If the partial docuplane is created from a section docuplane with a parent docuplane, the section lines will be updated to match the size of the new partial docuplane.
• Detail docuplanes are additional docuplanes that show the smaller region on the original docuplane, but the original docuplane continues to exist.
When you Show a sub-docuplane, the viewport zooms into those annotations within the partial or detail border.
Note the following about sub-docuplanes:
• Recursive sub-docuplanes (sub-docuplane of a sub-docuplane) are not possible. To get a smaller partial view, simply modify the current border. However, you can create multiple detail views from the same parent view.
• Partial and detail docuplane borders are displayed in a user-definable color. A customize function is available that allows you to define the color of the sub-docuplane border.
• A sub-docuplane inherits the configuration assigned to its parent. You must change the configuration assignment in the parent docuplane.
• You cannot create a partial docuplane from a multi-section docuplane.
To create a partial or detail docuplane,
1. Click 3D Documentation and then, in the Setup group, click the arrow next to Sub Docuplane.
2. Click Create. The Define Sub-docuplane dialog box opens.
3. Specify whether you want to create a Partial or a Detail docuplane.
4. Specify the parent docuplane of the sub-docuplane. The Border box becomes active and the dialog box expands to display the border creation commands.
5. Draw a sub-docuplane border on the parent docuplane.
6. If necessary, enter a new name for the sub-docuplane different to the one automatically selected in the New name box.
7. If necessary, enter a New Origin and/or New Scale for the sub-docuplane; the default values are taken from the parent docuplane.
