PCB Parts
To move a PCB part,
When you have added a part to a PCB assembly, you can use Move to define the placement of the part in terms of part location, orientation, and side of the board. Proceed as follows:
1. Click PCB and then, in the Part group, click Move. The Move Part dialog box opens.
2. Select the part that you want to move.
3. Select or specify the placement option(s) you want to apply to the part:
Rotation
Rotates the part by a given angle about its local Z axis at the local part origin.
By Origin
Moves a part. Similar to moving a part by specifying two points: the from point is predefined by the part's origin. During the move operation, the part's origin is visualized by feedback.
NormToBoard
Places the part parallel to the board surface. This option is useful for the accurate placement of parts that are not aligned with respect to the board surface.
Swap Side
Places the part onto the other side of the board.
BrdOrigin
Moves the part to the origin of the board (0,0,0, no rotation).
Mate Align, Dynamic, Translate, and so on
These options use standard Creo Elements/Direct Modeling Move functionality.
To view part information,
Use Inquire (Click PCB and then, in the Part group, click Inquire.) to obtain the following information about a part:
The profile on which the part is located
Where the part is situated in the assembly structure of its associated PCB assembly
Its class
Its associated model name.
To add a part to a PCB assembly,
Provided that your EE CAD system permits the addition of parts from an external source, you can use Add to add a PCB part to an existing PCB assembly. This command generates a shared instance of a model. Each of these instances receives a unique reference designator.
Proceed as follows:
1. Load the model of the part you want to add to your PCB assembly.
2. Click PCB and then, in the Part group, click Add. The AddPart dialog box opens.
3. In the AddPart dialog box, select the model you want to add. This model has to be included in the PCB_TOP/LIB_PART assembly.
4. Click PCA to specify or select the PCB assembly to which you want to add the PCB part.
5. If the PCB part has a mechanical function only, click MechPart.
*
The default values for MechPart and Refdes are taken from the selected model. To change these values:
a. Click PCB and then, in the Model group, click More.
b. Click Model in the Properties section. The Properties dialog box opens along with the Local Lib table. You can change the values.
6. Click Refdes to specify a unique reference designator for the PCB part (i.e. for the shared instance of the model) to be added.
7. Optionally, click Next to repeat this procedure for additional PCB parts you want to add to a PCB assembly.
8. Click .
When you have added a part to a PCB assembly, this part is owned by the PARTS subassembly of that PCB assembly. This part references the model of which it is a shared instance. If you change or replace this referenced model, the part will have the geometry of the changed or replaced model.
You can use the Move command (Click PCB and then, in the Part group, click Move.) to position parts in the PCB assembly.
To expand a PCB part,
Use Expand (Click PCB and then, in the Part group, click Expand.) to change a PCB part to an assembly that can have its own constituent parts.
To rename a PCB part,
Use Rename (Click PCB and then, in the Part group, click Rename.) to change the reference designator of a PCB part you added to a PCB with the Add command.
