Orthogonal side face cutting
Sheets that have been built or modified with the use of Creo Elements/Direct Modeling commands often contain side faces that do not have a 90 degree angle to the sheet plane. These side faces may need to be cut to a 90 degree angle for several reasons:
Production techniques of sheets are usually restricted to 90 degree side faces.
Some Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal commands (such as Add Lip) require a 90 degree angle at the selected edge.
Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal can cut side faces to a 90 degree angle for outer side faces and for inner faces that belong to holes punched into the sheet:
90 degree Face Cutting: Outer Side Faces
90 degree Face Cutting: Inner Faces
To cut a side face,
1. Click Sheet Metal and then, in the Modify Sheet group, click Orth Side. The Orth. Side Faces dialog box opens. Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal selects a Base Face automatically, and will align all side faces on the part by default (Complete option).
2. To change the base face selection, click Base Face and click the face on the part. Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal always cuts the part to the minimal profile, irrespective of the base face.
3. To cut only a single side face, do the following:
Click Single.
Click the Base Face of the sheet metal part. Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal always cuts the part to the minimal profile, irrespective of the base face.
Click the Side Face to cut.
4. Click to complete the operation.
Limitations
Orth Side is restricted to sheets that can be completely unfolded. For example, it does not work on sheets containing old offsets, since these cannot be unfolded.
The sheets to be handled must have a constant thickness.
