Create thread shape
You can create the exact shape of outer and inner threads for metric and metric fine threads. This is especially useful for 3D printing.
To create the thread shape,
1. Click Part Library and then, in the Thread group, click the arrow next to Attach.
2. Under Accurate Modeling, click Thread Modeling. The Thread Modeling dialog box opens.
3. In the Thread type box, select the type of thread; metric or metric fine.
4. Click Cyl face and select an inner or outer cylindrical face in the viewport. The Designation dialog box opens.
5. Select a thread value that is closest to the diameter of the cylindrical face. For outer threads, the value must be lesser than the diameter and for inner threads, the value must be greater than the diameter. Click Apply to close the Designation dialog box. The values for the thread diameter, length, offset, and number of turns are visible; you can change these, if required. A workplane is created for the cutting tool and a construction line shows the thread diameter.
6. Select the Reverse check box if you want to start the thread from the opposite end of the cylindrical face.
7. In the Tolerance box, select the tolerance. The Diameter box shows the updated value, if applicable.
8. In the Diameter box, change the diameter if required. This is useful to specify custom tolerances.
9. Under thread pitch, select the orientation of the thread: right hand or left hand.
10. In the Length box, type the length of the thread if a partial thread is required.
11. In the Offset Start and Offset End boxes, type values to define the exact start and end offsets of the thread, respectively.
12. In the Turns box, type the number of turns. This value also defines the length of the thread.
13. Select the Keep Wp check box to retain the workplane after constructing the thread.
14. Select the Keep Curve check box to retain the thread curve after constructing the thread.
15. Click Next to create the thread and continue. Alternatively, click OK to complete the operation.
