Create knurls
Create DIN 82 knurls in one operation with Creo Elements/Direct Part Library. Knurls are especially useful for 3D printing. You can create the following types of knurls:
Axially parallel (straight) knurls
Left-handed diagonal knurls
Right-handed diagonal knurls
Left-handed and right-handed (diamond) knurls
Axial and circumferential knurls
The following figure shows the types of knurls.
To create knurls,
1. Click Part Library and then, in the Feature group, click Knurl. The Knurl DIN 82 dialog box opens.
2. In the Form box, select the type of knurl.
3. In the Pitch box, select the pitch.
4. Click Cyl.Face and select an outer cylindrical face in the viewport. The values for groove length and offsets are visible; you can change these, if required. A workplane is also created for the cutting tool.
*
For axial and circumferential knurls, three workplanes are created; one for the axial grooves and two for the first and last circumferential grooves, respectively.
5. Select the Reverse check box if you want the workplane at the opposite end of the cylindrical face.
6. In the Length box, type the length of the grooves.
7. In the Offset Start and Offset End boxes, type the values to define the start and end offsets, respectively. These values are useful if there is a chamfer at the end of the cylindrical face. The value of the pitch is the offset by default.
8. Under Grooves Cross Direction (for axial and circumferential knurls only), specify the start and end offsets for the circumferential grooves and the number of grooves.
9. Under Point Shape Correction, in the Offset box, type the circumferential offset for the position of the tool based on the center of the cylinder.
10. Select the Keep Wp check box to retain the workplane or workplanes (axial and circumferential knurls) after creating the knurls.
11. Select the Keep Curve check box to retain the knurl lines after creating the knurls.
12. Click Next to create the knurls and continue. Alternatively, click OK to complete the operation.
