Create user-defined symbols
You can define a new type of symbol based on an existing symbol located on the current model. This also helps you avoid the tedious process of recreating complicated symbols.
To define a symbol template,
1. Click 3D Documentation and then, in the Annotate group, click the arrow next to More.
2. Click Define Template under Symbol. The Symbol Template dialog box opens.
3. Click Anno and click the base symbol on the drawing.
4. Enter a unique name in the Name box.
5. Select a category in the Category box or type a new category name.
6. Click the Thumbnail check box to create a small image of the defined symbol.
7. If needed, click Edit Thumbnail.
8. Click to complete the operation.
The newly defined symbol appears in the Template Browser.
*
Right-click the symbol in the template browser to access the following options:
Rename the template
Remove the template
Edit the template's thumbnail
To create a user-defined symbol,
1. Click 3D Documentation and then, in the Annotate group, click Symbol.
2. Double-click the user-defined symbol from the appropriate category in the template browser.
3. Click a reference element in the viewport.
4. Click Grab, then click an existing user-defined symbol from the viewport to copy its parameters, or specify the symbol's parameters, if any.
5. To add primary references, click Add, then click the elements on the model to which you want to add reference lines.
6. To remove references already specified , click Remove and click the reference line.
7. To select secondary references, click 2nd Refs.
Click edges, faces, parts or assemblies to select secondary reference elements. Selected elements turn red while the command is active.
Clear 2nd Refs to remove all secondary references.
8. Specify whether the symbol is free or attached to a docuplane. If necessary, select the docuplane.
9. Specify whether the symbol is oriented horizontally or vertically (if you specified a docuplane), or click User def. and define a direction in the viewport.
10. If applicable, specify how the reference lines should behave at their source:
Click Stub to have the reference lines all emerge from a single "tail" on the label.
Click Spider to distribute the reference sources about the text label.
11. Optionally specify either a Reference File or a Reference URL for the symbol.
12. You can end the current symbol creation in one of two ways:
Click Next to complete the current label and continue creating new labels with the current menu settings.
Click Reset to cancel the current label but keep the menu open with the same settings.
13. Click to complete the operation.
Properties of user-defined symbols can be adjusted within the Other Symbol(s) type in Annotation 3D Settings. See 3D Documentation settings.
