Set the default GD&T owner
To help you construct datums and tolerances at both part and assembly level, the GD&T advisor provides a context control tool. When the default owner is set to a specific part or assembly, only datum and tolerance symbols attached to that part or assembly are displayed in the viewport. An "automatic" setting causes all datums and tolerance labels to be displayed.
The default owner context also affects the Owner behavior in the Datums and Tolerances dialog boxes. If you set a default owner, it will be shown as the default in subsequently created datum and tolerance symbols, and the label placement method is therefore free. You can then select only elements from the given owner (unless you manually change the Owner setting).
You can also set the default owner to be determined automatically while creating datum and tolerance labels. In this case, the name of the owner of the selected elements that the label will be attached to is displayed in the Owner box. Note that to select elements over an assembly, you first need to specify the owning assembly in the Owner box.
To set the default GD&T owner,
1. Click 3D Documentation and then, in the Annotate group, click the arrow next to More.
2. Click GDT Owner under Tools. The GDT default owner dialog box opens.
3. Specify the default owner behavior:
Automatic
Specifies that the owner should be determined automatically from the elements that are selected and not be set in advance. All GD&T labels are displayed in the viewport.
Owner
Specifies the default owner. Click in the viewport, enter the path and name in the user input line, or use the Structure Browser to select the part or assembly. The default owner's name is displayed in the GDT default owner dialog box and in the Datums and Tolerances dialog boxes when they are opened. All GD&T labels owned by the selected owner are displayed in the viewport.
4. Click to accept the owner setting.
