Change sharp bends to regular Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal bends
If any sheet metal part created outside of Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal contains sharp (zero radius) bends, Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal applies its default bend radius when unfolding such bends. The default of this radius is set in the sha_customize file (or your working copy of this file). Online changes to the bend radius can be made in the Unfold menu.
For DFM compliance, you can select a radius consistent with one of the bend tools defined in your TDB. You can select this radius at any time or during the unfold process.
To change a sharp bend to a regular Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal bend,
1. Click Sheet Metal and then, in the Modify Sheet group, click the arrow next to Bend.
2. Click Create. The Create Bend dialog box opens.
3. Click Edge in the Create Bend dialog box.
4. Click on the edge (sharp bend) for which you want to select a radius.
5. Specify the bend attributes you want to apply.
6. Click .
To change a sharp bend to a regular Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal bend when unfolding,
1. Click Sheet Metal and then, in the Post Process group, click Unfold 2D. The Unfold dialog box opens.
2. Click Radius under Sharp Bends.
3. Specify the bend radius you want to apply to any sharp (zero radius) bends.
4. Click .
Unfolding sharp bends
When you have attached material to a part containing one or multiple sharp bends, you can process that part just like any other sheet metal part created in Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal. The following figure shows a planar part created in Creo Elements/Direct Modeling plus the flat for that part. The original planar part has a sharp bend (1). This sharp bend is replaced by a defined-radius bend (2). The flat produced from this part contains the appropriate bend line (3).
Please note the following:
If you decide to retain sharp bends of parts created outside of Creo Elements/Direct Sheet Metal, be sure to make a small cutout to simulate a bend relief where necessary so that the part will be unfolded properly.
To ensure that parts containing sharp bends are unfolded correctly, make sure that the bending zone has parallel and planar side faces.
