Create a workplane for keys
Creo Elements/Direct Part Library includes a command to create a workplane tangent to a cylindrical face. The cylindrical surface is projected as construction geometry to the new workplane. Although Creo Elements/Direct Modeling has a command to project construction geometry on a workplane, this command adds a line for the axis of the cylinder and gives you several useful options.
When you create a feather key, you will use this workplane to select its position on the cylinder.
To create a workplane for feather keys,
1. Click Part Library and then, in the Shaft/Hub group, click the arrow next to Feather Key.
2. Click WP-Cyl-Face. The WP-Cyl-Const dialog box opens.
3. If you do not have a workplane positioned tangent to the cylinder, add one with WP-Cyl-Const.
4. Type a Name, or accept the default.
5. Select an Owner for the workplane.
6. Select a cylindrical Face in the viewport. The workplane will be positioned on the spot where you click.
7. Set the workplane face Normal, if desired. This is helpful if you want the feather key positioned relative to other parts in the viewport.
8. Select Alternative if you want the workplane positioned on the opposite side of the cylinder from where you selected the cylindrical face.
9. Click OK to complete the operation.
