Store a part or an assembly as a template
We recommend that you use the Save command, because it allows you to create the icon as part of the process. If you add a part from the Administration menu, you must create the icon yourself.
To add a part to the library,
1. Click Part Library and then, in the Catalog group, click the arrow next to Save.
2. Click Part/Assy.
The Save dialog box opens.
3. The Select tool opens with the dialog box. Click the object type in the 3D Objects section and select the part or assembly which you want to save.
4. The Standard Parts dialog box opens. Open the group where you want the part or assembly to be saved and then click OK at the top of the dialog box.
5. Position the part in the Icon viewport.
6. Click to complete the operation.
7. The Create part dialog box opens, where you can set the part's properties. If you add a part from the Administration menu, only the Create part dialog box opens. Type the following information for your part:
Part name: The name of the part. The name can only contain lower case letters, numbers, and underscores (_). This is displayed above the group icon in the library dialog box.
Menutext: This is displayed as the title of the part.
Part/Assy: The part or assembly you want to save.
Parent group: The group where this part is stored.
Icon: The icon displayed in the library dialog box for this group. The icon must be a .pm, .bmp, .tif, or .gif image file. If you created an icon in the previous steps, you do not need to do anything with this field.
For more information, see Add a library part or assembly
8. Click CreatePart. The library part is created. By default, the library part is stored in <%APPDATA%>\Roaming\PTC\Creo Elements Direct Modeling [version]\[version]\PartLibrary\plib_library_parts\normteile. You can specify a different path using the PART_LIBRARY_PARTS environment variable. For more information, see Create company or group directories on a network drive.
*
To access the library part from multiple client computers, you can do one of the following:
Mark the part as library element and then, save it in the Model Manager database. For more information, see Mark as a library element.
Save the library part in a shared directory in the file system. The PART_LIBRARY_PARTS environment variable on all client computers must be set to the same path.
