Enter material properties
The Edit Matrl DB dialog box is used to create and edit your own material database. It contains familiar mechanical and thermal properties which need no further explanation. The main fields are:
Info
Enter a description of the database.
Local ID
The local ID of the database entry (used by the system to give the material a unique ID). When you are editing an existing database, this button is active. Click Local ID to display the Database Materials dialog box showing the materials already available in this database.
Matrl ID
The material ID corresponding to the material name.
Properties
Use this section of the menu to enter mechanical and thermal properties. Note that the Shear modulus (G), Young's modulus (E), and Poisson's (Y) ratio are related by the formula G=E/(2x(1+Y)). You need only specify two values and the third is calculated automatically.
New Matrl
Clears the fields to make ready for new material data.
Copy Matrl
Copies the current material together with its characteristics. A unique Matrl ID
must be given. (Useful when several grades of the same material are available.)
Save Matrl
Use this command to save (transfer) the contents of the menu to the database. The menu remains open to let you add additional materials.
Delete
Deletes the currently selected material.
To assign a material from the new database,
1. Click FEA and then, in the Material group, click Assign. The Assign Material dialog box opens.
2. Select Database in the Source Matrl box.
Creo Elements/Direct Finite Element Analysis displays the name of the most recently edited database in the Database box. To select another database, click Database and use the File Browser.
3. Click Material.
The Database Materials browser is displayed.
4. Select the desired material by double-clicking it or by highlighting it and clicking Apply in the browser window.
5. Click to assign the material to the part.
