Create a flat cable
You can create flat cables with the Creo Elements/Direct Cabling Module. Flat cables cannot be autorouted. You can create linear flat cables or those that follow open 2D profile geometry. You can also create a new flat cable segment based on, and offset from an existing one. Later you can use other commands to modify or extend the flat cable.
To create a linear flat cable,
1. Click Cabling and then, in the Flatcable group, click the arrow next to New.
2. Click Linear flatcable. The Create Flatcable dialog box opens.
3. Select or type a Name for the flat cable.
4. Select or type the number of Pins.
5. Specify the Length and Width of the flat cable's cross section.
6. Select an option for the cross section Origin:
7. Click Start Pnt and click a start point for the flat cable.
8. Click End Pnt and click an end point for the cable.
9. Click Reverse Pin 1 to reverse the flat cable's pin orientation.
10. If necessary, click Reposition and use the Position options to reposition the flat cable.
11. Click Next to create another linear flat cable, or click to complete the operation.
To create a flat cable from profile geometry,
1. Click Cabling and then, in the Flatcable group, click the arrow next to New.
2. Click Profile flatcable.
3. Select or type a Name for the flat cable.
4. Select or type the number of Pins.
5. Specify the Length and Width of the flat cable's cross section.
6. Select a workplane with the 2D geometry or the 3D Curve on which you wish to base the flat cable.
7. To flip the orientation of the geometry, click Flip in the Change Position section.
8. To create symmetrical flat cables on both the sides of the profile geometry, click Symmetrical in the Change Position section.
*
The geometry must be a spline curve. If the geometry on the workplane has non-tangent continuous edges, Creo Elements/Direct Cabling automatically adds smooth bends to such edges when you create a flat cable from the profile geometry.
9. Click to complete the operation.
To create an offset flat cable segment,
1. Click Cabling and then, in the Flatcable group, click the arrow next to New.
2. Click Offset flatcable. The Offset Cable Segment dialog box opens.
3. Select or type the new flat cable segment's offset from the existing segment.
4. Select a segment.
5. Click to complete the operation.
