Attach a generic text label
You can add basic text labels to your models. The "generic" text note is a straightforward label that can be attached to a docuplane or left to be free. Generic text can be assigned to specific categories, such as engineering and manufacturing. You can also create additional custom label categories.
You can attach a URL and/or a file reference to a generic text label.
Reference lines can emerge from the label in two different ways, illustrated below:
"Spider" Reference Line Source Style
"Stub" Reference Line Source Style
Because it is not a feature (unlike 3D Notes), it is possible to attach a generic text label to any number of references. Note that the reference lines lead directly to the selected reference when the text is positioned freely. When a docuplane is selected, the references are projected to that docuplane:

To attach a generic text label to a reference point on a model,
1. Click View and then, in the Window group, click the arrow next to Toolbars.
2. Click Modeling > 3D Documentation. the 3D Documentation toolbar opens.
3. On the 3D Documentation toolbar, click 3D Text. The Generic Text box automatically opens along with the Text dialog box.
4. Enter the desired text in the input box, and click when you are finished.
5. Click the elements on the model to which you want to attach the text label.
6. To remove already specified references, click Remove and click the reference line to undo. Click Add again to continue adding references.
7. You can add further references to the label. Click the 2nd Refs check box, then click any number of edges, faces, parts or assemblies to specify secondary reference elements.
8. Specify whether the text label is to be free or to be attached to a docuplane. In the latter case, specify also the docuplane the label is to be attached to.
9. In the URL area, you may specify either a reference File or a Location for the label.
10. Specify the category of the text label. You can choose from:
Generic
Engineering
Manufacturing
Inspection
11. Click User def. in the Text Orientation area, then define the text orientation in the viewport by clicking on a geometry element or workplane as a reference. You can also right-click for more options.
12. Specify how the reference lines should behave at their source:
Click Stub to have the reference lines all emerge from a single "tail" on the label.
Click Spider to distribute the reference sources about the text label.
13. You can end the current text label in one of two ways:
Click Next to complete the current label and continue creating new labels with the current menu settings.
Click Reset to cancel the current label but keep the menu open with the same settings.
14. When you are finished creating text labels, click to complete the operation.
It is also possible to attach a text label to a docuplane without a reference line. In this case, first specify the docuplane to attach the text to, and then click the position for the label. No reference line will be drawn, though you can add one later.
