Assign the general tolerance
The general tolerance type used in dimensioning is a tolerancing definition that can be set as default for all general-toleranced dimensions or assigned as an attribute to specific parts and assemblies. General tolerance values depend on the nominal dimension value, and are updated automatically whenever the dimension value changes. As these are default tolerances, they are not displayed with the dimensions, but you can view them with the Show General Tolerance command. Note that general tolerances are not applicable to angle dimensions.
General tolerance sets that have been assigned to a part or assembly are attributes that are saved with the part or assembly. It is the values of the defined set that are saved, and not the set's name, ensuring transportability of the attribute.
General tolerance sets are defined by specifying pairs of values that determine the range of dimension values taking specific plus/minus tolerances. To define and register general tolerance sets, you need to edit the d3d_customize file, which is read automatically upon initialization of 3D Documentation. Here you can also define which set should be the session default upon start up.
To assign a general tolerance set,
1. Click 3D Documentation and then, in the Annotate group, click the arrow next to More.
2. Click Assign Default Tolerance under General Tolerance. The Assign General Tol dialog box opens with Default selected and the name of the current default general tolerance set displayed in the Name box.
3. Specify the general tolerance assignation you want to make:
Default: Select this if you want to assign the default general tolerance. The default general tolerance is used for all dimensions defined with the general tolerance type, except for those attached to owners having a specific general tolerance attribute. When you select this option, the name of the current default general tolerance set is displayed in the Name field.
Part/Assy: Select a part or assembly to which you want to assign a general tolerance set. This action will attach an attribute to the part or assembly, which is saved with it. When you select this option, the Name box indicates the status of the selected part or assembly as follows:
If the selected part or assembly already has a general tolerance attribute, and this attribute is registered in your current 3D Documentation session, its name is displayed in the Name box.
If the selected part or assembly has a general tolerance attribute, but this attribute is not currently registered, the Name box indicates this with the output unregistered.
If the part or assembly has no general tolerance attribute, the Name box is empty.
To remove ("unassign") a general tolerance set from the selected part or assembly, click Remove current Assignation. This button is only available when a Part/Assy has been specified that possesses a general tolerance set attribute.
Select a general tolerance set to assign in the Name box. This set will be assigned either as default or to the selected part or assembly, depending on your selection above.
4. Click to end the operation and make the assignation.
