Create, change, and remove position flags
*
Before working with position flags, it is necessary that the owner of your current BOM can be modified. In other words, upon loading the assembly, the assembly must not be a read-only assembly. A current BOM is defined by using the Collect command.
To create a position flag,
1. Click Insert and then, in the BOM group, click New Pos Flag. The Create Position Flag dialog box opens.
2. You can specify the portion of the BOM in BOM Entry. To do this, either click the corresponding
row in the BOM table
part or assembly in the viewport, or
part or assembly in the browser.
After selection, the system will highlight the corresponding part in the color as defined in the settings dialog.
3. Choose a text value for the position flag in Number. The system automatically suggests a number that either
transfers from Design Data Management, or
follows the rules defined in the settings dialog (when working without a database).
4. In Reference, select a position on a face of the corresponding BOM entry, to where the position flag label will point.
5. Click Docuplane or Free in the Placement area.
Docuplane creates BOM position flags that are projected to the specified docuplane.
Free creates flags that lead directly to the selected reference.
6. To change the text orientation, click User def. in the Text Orientation area, then define the text orientation in the viewport by clicking on a geometry element or workplane as a reference. You can also right-click for more options.
After the position flag is created, you can reposition the flag (or any other 3D or Annotation position flags) in the viewport by clicking on the 3D label. After the position flag for this BOM entry is fully specified, to begin the creation of the next position flag
click BOM Entry again to select the next part, or
click Next and let the system automatically specify the next BOM entry.
Parts can have more than one position flag. However, every instance of a shared part will also share a position flag with the same number.
To change a position flag,
1. Click Insert and then, in the BOM group, click Modify Pos Flag. The Modify Position Flag dialog box opens.
2. In Pos Flag, click the position flag that should be changed in the viewport.
3. BOM Owner displays the assembly that is the owner of the BOM.
4. Click Number to specify a new text for the position flag. If the position flag points to a shared part, all position flags pointing to other instances of this shared part will also change.
5. Click Reference to change the reference point on a same face, or the reference face of the position flag. For shared parts, the instance where a position flag points to can also be changed.
6. Click Docuplane or Free under Placement.
Docuplane changes BOM position flags that are attached to the specific docuplane.
Free changes flags that lead directly to the selected reference.
7. To change the text orientation, click User def. in the Text Orientation area, then define the text orientation in the viewport by clicking on a geometry element or workplane as a reference. You can also right-click for more options.
8. Click Spider or Stub under Appearance.
Spider changes a leader line from the center of the label to the reference.
Stub changes a leader line from the "tail" of the label to the reference.
9. Click to finish the change position flag action or click Pos Flag to change another position flag.
For Design Data Management users: If your current BOM comes from Design Data Management, it is not possible to modify the number. In this case, the Number box is not available.
To remove a position flag,
1. Click Insert and then, in the BOM group, click Delete Pos Flag. The Remove Pos Flag dialog box opens.
2. Click the Only Open References check box if you only want to remove position flags for open references. If no open references are found, this option is greyed out.
3. Select the Assembly where the position flags should be removed and click .
The system removes all position flags that belong to the selected assembly and clears the "Pos No" column within the BOM table.
To delete a single position flag, use Delete in the Annotate group on the 3D Documentation tab.
To change settings for a BOM position flag,
1. Click File > Settings > 3D Documentation > BOM Settings. The BOM settings dialog box opens.
2. Type a Start and Step value under Numbering.
Start represents the number that the first position flag will begin.
Step represents the number increments between the position flags.
3. Click Spider or Stub under Appearance.
Spider creates a leader line from the center of the label to the reference.
Stub creates a leader line from the "tail" of the label to the reference.
4. Select the Highlight color for Unassigned and Assigned parts.
Unassigned parts do not yet have a position flag label.
Assigned parts already have a position flag label.
