Search and filter items
Use search to find and display items that meet specific criteria, such as active parts. Use filter with large assemblies to display only relevant data.
Search items
Use search to find parts that meet specific criteria. Click the search menu and select a default search, or create a new search. Enter search patterns in the Search & Filter dialog, including wildcards (* and ? characters) or regular expressions like p[2-4]. The pattern is compared with object names and in case of a match, the browser tree opens the branch (if not open yet), scrolls the item into the visible window portion and highlights the object(s) in the browser and the viewport. Click the search icon to toggle the search on and off.
To search for an item,
1. Click the search menu in the Structure Browser.
2. Click Define New Search to open the Search & Filter dialog. We will search for parts named "piston."
3. Set the first criteria to Instance Name.
4. Set the operator to = to search for parts with this name.
5. Type piston* in the last criteria to find all variations of the name "piston."
6. If you want to set additional search parameters, click More. Set Match All or Match Any to limit your search.
7. Click Apply Search to run the search. Search results are highlighted in the browser and viewport.
Save your search pattern to use it again. To start a stored search, click the search menu in the Structure Browser. Stored searches remain when you start a new session. They are deleted when you exit Creo Elements/Direct Modeling.
Filter items
If you work with large assemblies, use filters to display only relevant data. Click the filter menu and use the Search & Filter dialog to enter filter patterns, including wildcards (* and ? characters) or regular expressions like p[2-4]. The browser displays only those items that meet your filter criteria. Click the filter icon to toggle the filter on and off.
Save your filter pattern to use it again. Click the filter menu in the Structure Browser to apply stored filters. Stored filters remain when you start a new session. They are deleted when you exit Creo Elements/Direct Modeling.
