Select 3D elements using Geometry Rules
You can select faces that belong to the selected part or all parts and follow certain geometry rules. For example, you can select all axial cylindrical faces that have the same radius.
1. Click Modeling and then, in the Utilities group, click (Select). The Select dialog box opens.
2. Click 3D Elem.
3. In the Methods section, click Geom Rules. The Geometry Rules section opens.
4. Click the Blend/Chamfer check box. This is the default.
*
If you want to apply blend or chamfer rules to the selected geometrical elements in the viewport, click the Blend/Chamfer check box before you select a reference face.
5. Click Ref Face and select a reference face on the part. The Rules section is now visible below the Geometry Rules section and all other faces that follow the geometry rules (specified in the Rules section) are also selected.
*
If you click the Blend/Chamfer check box in the Geometry Rules section and then select a blend or chamfer face as the reference face in the viewport, the blend or chamfer-specific geometry rules are displayed in the Rules section. If you clear Blend/Chamfer, the blend or chamfer-specific geometry rules are not displayed.
Creo Elements/Direct Modeling applies the blend or chamfer-specific rules only to the following types of blends or chamfers:
Constant Radius Blend
Constant Distance Chamfer
Distance Distance Chamfer
Distance Angle Chamfer
For other types of blends or chamfers, Creo Elements/Direct Modeling ignores the blend or chamfer-specific geometry rules.
*
In the Rules section, you can specify rules only for the following geometrical elements:
Plane
Cylinder
Cone
Torus
Sphere
You cannot select a spline face as a reference face.
6. In the Rules section, the following rules are available:
Geo Type — Displays the type of face geometry of the selected reference face.
Plane Align — Select Coplanar, Parallel, or Perpendicular to select the faces (in the viewport) that are coplanar, parallel, or perpendicular to the reference face, respectively. Select Ignore to ignore this rule.
Axis Align — Select Coaxial, Axial, or Perpendicular so that the faces (of geometrical elements such as cylinder, cone, or torus), that are coaxial, axial, or perpendicular to the reference face, respectively, are selected. Select Ignore to ignore this rule.
Orientation — Select Same or Opposite to select the faces that have the specified orientation (for face normal or axis) with respect to the reference face. Select Ignore to ignore this rule.
*
If you click the Blend/Chamfer check box under Geometry Rules and select Same in the Orientation box, convex as well as concave blends and chamfers are selected in the viewport.
Same Radius — Selects all faces (of geometrical entities such as cylinder or sphere) with the same radius as the reference face.
*
If you select a blend as the reference face in the viewport, click Same Radius to select all the constant-radius blends that have the same radius as the reference blend.
Same Distance or Same Distance/Distance or Same Distance/Angle — Selects all chamfer faces with the same distance, same distances (D1 and D2), or the same distance and angle as the reference chamfer face, respectively.
*
The chamfers that are selected in the viewport are of the same type as the reference chamfer and follow the specified geometry rules. For example, if you select a Distance/Distance chamfer as a reference face, all Distance/Distance chamfers are selected in the viewport.
Same Major Radius — Selects all faces (of geometrical entities such as torus) with the same major radius as the reference face.
Same Minor Radius — Selects all faces (of geometrical entities such as torus) with the same minor radius as the reference face.
Same Cone Angle — Selects faces (cone) that have the same cone angle.
7. Satisfy: Select All Rules to select the faces that follow all specified rules or select Any Rule to select faces that follow any rule.
8. Scope: Select All Parts to select faces (that follow specified geometry rules) from all parts or select Selected Part to select faces (that follow the specified geometry rules) only from the part to which the reference face belongs.
9. Number: Displays the number of faces (selected in the viewport) that follow the specified geometry rules.
10. Click Accept to complete the selection of faces that follow the specified geometry rules or click Abort to cancel the selection.
*
To open the Geometry Rules dialog box without opening the Select dialog box, press SPACEBAR (when the cursor is in the viewport) and click on the Select Mini Toolbar (SMT).
