Define clipping features
You can create a clipping feature, in which you can define up to six clipping planes positioned relative to the model. When you dynamically move the model, the clipping planes also move. To activate and deactivate a clipping feature, double-click it in the Structure Browser or,
1. Click View and then, in the Clipping group, click Act/Deact.
2. Click Activate Clipping or Deactivate Clipping to respectively activate or deactivate a clipping plane.
To define a clipping feature,
1. Click View and then, in the Clipping group, click the arrow next to New.
2. Click General, On Face, or On Axis. The Define Clipping Planes dialog box opens.
3. Click New Clipping Feature.
4. (Optional) Check the Owner box and select the clipping feature's owner. Select whether the clipping feature should be attached to the owner by instance or contents data.
*
You must assign an owner if you wish to store the clipping feature with the model.
The owner must not be read-only.
If you do not select an owner, Creo Elements/Direct Modeling creates the clipping feature below /. In this case, you can define clipping features even for read-only models.
5. Name the clipping feature.
6. Uncheck Owner and click Accept.
7. Choose a clipping combination:
*
Z-sections (at right above) are known from Creo Elements/Direct Annotation, where a view contains multiple section lines.
8. Create or remove up to six clipping planes by any of the methods in the Actions menu:
Create by planes: Manually define or modify clipping planes.
Click Flip All Clipping Planes to reverse the normal direction of each clipping plane in the clipping feature.
Click and to navigate through clipping planes.
Click Flip Normal to reverse the normal direction of the current clipping plane.
Create by points: Use this method when all clipping planes use the same "up" direction.
Create by polygon: Use this method to create complex clipping features:
Select a workplane containing a polygon with up to six straight lines.
Click a point on the side of the polygon that you wish to remain visible (unclipped).
Gather from WP/DP Set: From the Structure Browser, select a workplane set or docuplane set on which to base up to six clipping planes.
Delete: Select a clipping plane in the viewport to remove it from the clipping feature.
*
If you plan to create multi-section or Z-section docuplanes based on a clipping feature, keep the following rules in mind:
The clipping feature must conform to one of the following configurations of clipping combination and clipping planes:
Clipping combination
Multi-section docuplane
Z-section docuplane
exactly two non-parallel clipping planes
one clipping plane for a simple section or exactly two non-parallel clipping planes for a Z-section
exactly two non-parallel clipping planes
one clipping plane for a simple section or exactly two non-parallel clipping planes for a Z-section
at least two clipping planes
one clipping plane for a simple section or more than one clipping plane for a Z-section
9. Click to complete the operation.
Limitations
Render materials assigned via the Creo Elements/Direct Rendering Module do not display when clipping features are active.
