Set part properties
You can change the name, appearance, accuracy, and other properties of individual or shared parts. These settings can improve the system performance and improves efficiency. For example, you can set the default part transparency so you can see through the parts in complex assemblies. This can help you quickly locate the parts you need to work on. However, you may want to turn transparency off if it slows down your system.
If you want to change the default part settings, see Change 3D object settings.
When you change the properties of a part, all instances of a shared part are changed. However, individual part settings override the base settings.
To change a part's properties of a part
1. Click Structure and then, in the Part & Assembly group, click More.
2. Click Part in the Properties section.
3. Select a part in the viewport or the Structure Browser. The Part Properties dialog box opens.
4. To copy settings from another part, click Copy from.
5. The Names pane includes the following properties:
Name: The part name displayed in the Structure Browser and becomes the instance file name when you save 3D Data files.
Model Name: The contents file name for the part when you save 3D Data files.
6. The Appear pane includes the following properties:
Appearance: When the Creo Elements/Direct Rendering module is active, select whether the part displays a render material, color, or transparency.
Render Material: When the Creo Elements/Direct Rendering module is active, the menu indicates the name of the render material attached to the part. You can select from recently used render materials.
Click View to display and, if possible, edit the render material's properties.
Click Select and pick a material in the Creo Elements/Direct Rendering browser to assign a different render material.
Color: The color of the faces on the part.
Edge Color: The color of the edges on the part. The default is the part color. The edge color is not displayed when you render a model.
Transparency: The transparency level for the part.
Mirror Power: Set the mirror power value for the base part and its instance. If you specify both values, the value for the instance is used. If both values are None, the global mirror power is used for that part. For Global Mirror Power, see Change viewport settings.
Mixed Display: Opens a dialog where you can set the display for shading, hidden edges, wireframe, and edge display.
7. The Geo Resol pane includes the following properties.
Resolution: The geometric resolution for the part. You can type in any value between 1.0E-1 to 1.0E-6, but the coarsest recommended value is 1.0E-2 mm.
Data Reduction: Reduces the memory requirements for bspline geometry while changing the resolution to a less exact resolution.
8. The Material pane allows you to change the part's density.
9. The Statistics pane includes the following properties:
Measure Properties: Detailed information about part's measurements, such as mass and area.
Geometry Properties: Generates a report with the number of surfaces, edges, vertices, etc., on the part.
10. The Facets pane allows you to change the part's facet accuracy. (graphical accuracy only)
11. The Unique ID pane displays the following properties of an assembly, workplane, or a container under the Instance and Contents tabs:
SysID: SysID assigned to the instance or contents of the selected assembly.
Symbolic Data:
Name: Name of the instance or contents of the selected assembly.
Version: Version number of the instance or contents of the selected assembly.
Type: Type of version of the instance or contents of the selected assembly. The four different types of versions are:
Reference
To-be-reintegrated
Reintegrated
Load-as-version
12. Click Close after you complete all your operations. Changes are applied as you change properties.
Limitations
You can only set the edge color on a shared part when the instance color is also set. If the instance color is removed, the edge color will also be removed.
