Measure 3D axes
Use the Axis 3D CoPilot to measure axes. Follow the directions in the Prompt Bar.
You can measure the 3D axis of:
Two points
A cylinder, cone, or torus
An edge tangent
Global coordinate axes (X,Y,Z)
Local workplane axes (U,V,W)
Horizontal axis of a workplane
Vertical axis of a workplane
Normal direction of a face
To select the axes to measure, hover over the element you want to measure, or use the right-click menu. All measure 3D axes functions start with:
1. Click Analysis and then, in the Measure group, click the arrow next to Direction.
2. Click Axis 3D. The Measure Output dialog box opens with two sets of X, Y, and Z fields (3D CoPilot directional arrows).
3. Click the element to be measured or choose an option from the right-click menu. The X, Y, Z fields in the Measure Output dialog will show the measurement of each axis.
Example: To measure the axis of a cylinder, cone, or torus,
1. Click Analysis and then, in the Measure group, click the arrow next to Direction.
2. Click Axis 3D. The Measure Output dialog box opens with two sets of X, Y, and Z fields (3D CoPilot directional arrows).
3. Hover over the cylindrical, conical, or toroidal face. Graphical feedback shows the direction of the axis of symmetry. Press the Tab key to reverse the direction.
4. Click the face.
5. Click the green arrow button to send the measurement to a command.
6. Click the green arrow and calculator button to send the measurement to the calculator.
