A configuration offers an alternate view of your assembly that you can quickly turn on and off. One popular use is the exploded view. You can also use configurations to visualize your assemblies with parts moved to locations different from their normal positions.
For example, if you have an assembly with moving parts, you can create a configuration to move the parts into their secondary positions. Activate and deactivate the configuration as you work, and you won't have to manually reposition parts.
Any position changes you make while a configuration is active are saved in the configuration, not as the standard or default position of the object.
To set up a configuration,
1. Create a configuration. This step adds a configuration to your assembly in the structure browser, but doesn't move your parts. You can create as many configurations as you like.
2. Activate or deactivate a configuration. Double-click a configuration to make it active. Your parts move to their defined positions when the configuration is active.
3. Arrange your parts and sub-assemblies:
◦ Move objects in a configuration individually with dynamic positioning or any other positioning method. You must have permission to edit a configuration's owner assembly to change the position of its parts.
◦ Explode an assembly to automatically move parts in a variety of arrangements.
5. Deactivate the configuration: When you are satisfied with the arrangement of your parts and sub-assemblies. Double-click the configuration in the structure browser to deactivate it.
