Installation prerequisites
For best results, make sure you meet these prerequisites before you install:

Microsoft does not recommend that customers deploy business critical servers (like data management) on their desktop operating systems (for example Windows 10). Customers should deploy business critical servers on the Microsoft server operating systems (for example, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, and so on). Creo Elements/Direct has found severe scalability limits when using desktop operating systems for servers.

• Install the latest Windows service packs and critical updates for your Operating System. Get the latest Windows service packs using Windows Update.
Hardware
• Your computer needs at least two (2) GB of free disk space. The installation program requires space in your Windows temporary directory. Make sure you have at least 512 MB available on the hard drive where your temporary directory is located.
• Express Install: If your computer does not have at least 768 MB of memory, you cannot install Creo Elements/Direct Manager Server.

Software

◦ The Express installation checks your system for Microsoft SQL Server 2019, Microsoft SQL Server 2017, Oracle 12c, or Oracle 19c.
◦ If none of the database software is installed, it installs Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Express Edition.
◦ If Microsoft SQL Server 2019 is installed, it is used.
◦ If Microsoft SQL Server 2017 is installed, it is used.
◦ If only Oracle 12c is installed, it is used.
◦ If only Oracle 19c is installed, it is used.
◦ A Custom installation does not perform any checks for database software. The Creo Elements/Direct Manager Server installation requires that:
▪ You have installed Microsoft SQL Server 2019, Microsoft SQL Server 2017, Oracle 12c, or Oracle 19c
▪ You will install Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Express Edition during the installation.

If you have Microsoft SQL Server 2019, Microsoft SQL Server 2017, Oracle 12c, or Oracle 19c installed, check that the following services have not been disabled or set to manually start. This will cause the database installation to fail.
Oracle 19c or Oracle 12c:
• OracleOraDb19c_home1TNSListener or OracleOraDb12c_home1TNSListener
• OracleServiceWM
Microsoft SQL Server 2017 or Microsoft SQL Server 2019:
• SQL Server (instance_name)

• If you will be using an Oracle 19c database:
◦ The computer where Oracle 19c is installed must have a static IP address, not a loopback adapter. Use of a loopback adapter prevents the Creo Elements/Direct Database Server and File Server from working correctly.
◦ Install Oracle 19c.
|

Reboot the computer where you installed Oracle 19c before installing the Creo Elements/Direct Manager Server Database Server. Failure to do so may cause an ORA-12560 error: TNS protocol error, which hangs the installation. Recovery may not be possible.
|
• If you will be using an Oracle 12c database:
◦ The computer where Oracle 12c is installed must have a static IP address, not a loopback adapter. Use of a loopback adapter prevents the Creo Elements/Direct Database Server and File Server from working correctly.
◦ Install Oracle 12c ODAC 12.1.0.2 or later. The ODAC (Oracle Data Access Components) includes the Oracle Provider for OLE DB 12.1.0.2 (or later).

If you install .NET Framework version 3.5, the .NET Framework version 2.0 also gets installed.

Do I have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5?
Check if Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 is installed by opening the Control Panel and double-clicking Add or Remove Programs. Scroll through the list and look for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.
What if I don’t have it?
1. From Internet Explorer, click > or browse to www.microsoft.com and navigate to Windows Update for your operating system.
2. If you do not have the latest version of Windows updating software, you will be prompted to update.
3. Make sure you have all the latest updates and service packs for your operating system.
◦ If you are out-of-date, you may be required to run through the Windows update process several times, as some updates cannot be installed until previous updates have been installed. You may also be required to reboot after some of the updates.
4. Click Custom to find the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 update.
5. The Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 update can be found in the Software, Optional category.
a. Select Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.
b. Click Review and install updates.
6. Click Install Updates.
7. Once Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 has finished installing, click Close.
• Microsoft SQL Server 2019 and Microsoft SQL Server 2017 require Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8.
What if I don’t have it?
1. Browse to msdn.microsoft.com/data/ref/mdac/downloads/.
2. Download and install the latest version for your computer.
3. Once Microsoft DAC has finished installing, click Close.
• You must not have Microsoft SQL Server Native Client installed without Microsoft SQL Server.
• You must install Microsoft SQL Server Native Client on the Creo Elements/Direct Manager Database Server computer if your SQL Server database is on a different computer.
What if I don’t have it?
1. Browse to www.microsoft.com/downloads.
2. Search All Downloads for Microsoft SQL Server Native Client (you should find it as part of the Feature Pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2019).
3. Download and install the appropriate package for your Database Server computer.
• You must have the most recent Creo Elements/Direct License Server installed and available to the server computer(s), with the appropriate licenses installed and configured.
• In order for the Creo Elements/Direct Job Spooler to correctly connect to a Creo Elements/Direct Job Server, they must have the same version. (For example, a Job Spooler installed from Creo Elements/Direct Manager Server 20.6 requires a Creo Elements/Direct Job Server 20.6, which in turn requires Creo Elements/Direct Modeling 20.6/ Creo Elements/Direct Drafting 20.6.)
• Before installing Creo Elements/Direct Manager Server on a Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 system, set the following system environment variable:
