Work with tasks
You can define scheduled tasks to update a clash analysis, generate 2D or 3D output formats, plot drawings, or generate PDF files for drawings. Your tasks are listed in the Tasks tab on the Workspace bar.

In order to access the Task tab, your Administrator must have first registered a job server in the Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager Admin tab.
All scheduled tasks consist of a set of common information and optional task-specific information. The common information is:
Job Type: Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager automatically assigns the Job Type, based on the type of task you've chosen to create.
Job types:
Clash Analysis
2D Format Generation
3D Native Format Generation: CATIA V4, I-DEAS, Parasolid (including SolidWorks, SolidEdge, and NX), Creo Elements/Pro, or NX
3D Standard Format Generation: IGES 3D, SAT, or STEP
3D Viewing Format Generation: 3D PDF, U3D, VRML, XVL, or eDrawings 3D
Plot
PDF Generation
Name: Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager automatically generates the task name, based on the type of task. You can edit it if desired.
Description: Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager automatically generates the task description, based on the type of task. You can edit it if desired.
Schedule: When do you want this task to run? The task runs immediately unless you specify a different date/time. You change the date using the calendar icon; you change the time by manually editing it.
Recurrence: How often do you want to run this task? Your choices are Once, Daily, or Weekly.
Priority: Controls the execution order if more than one task is ready for execution. Tasks with higher priority are executed first.
Propagation Policy: The scheduled action belongs to this version of the referenced element (Clash Analysis, model or assembly, drawing, or Masterdata). Possible values are the same as Load Rule for the referenced element.
To create a Clash Analysis task,
 
1. Generate a clash analysis in Creo Elements/Direct Modeling (but don't calculate it, so that the icon remains green). Save the model containing the clash analysis to Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager.
2. In your Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager workspace, locate and select your model or assembly and expand the structure. Select the green clash analysis definition .
3. Click Task Agent and then, in the Other group, click Recalculate Clash Analysis . Alternatively, right-click the clash analysis definition and, in the shortcut menu, click Recalculate Clash Analysis > Schedule. The New Task dialog box opens.
4. Enter the task information.
5. Click OK. Your task is added to Tasks.
To create Clash Analysis tasks for multiple items,
1. In your Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager workspace, locate and select your green clash analysis definitions . Press Ctrl to select multiple items.
2. Click Task Agent and then, in the Other group, click Recalculate Clash Analysis. Alternatively, right-click the clash analysis definition and, in the shortcut menu, click Recalculate Clash Analysis > Schedule. The Create Scheduled Tasks dialog box lists your items individually.
3. To edit the task schedule, click Edit Schedule. In the Scheduling Options dialog box, enter the task information. This information applies to all your items.
4. Click OK. Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager creates a separate task for each of your items. The tasks are visible on the Tasks tab.
To create a 3D Format Generation task,
 
1. In your Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager workspace, select a model or assembly.
If you want to schedule a task to convert your model or assembly to a 3D native format:
a. Click Task Agent and then, in the 3D Models group, click the arrow next to Generate Native Format. Alternatively, right-click and, in the shortcut menu, click Generate Native Format.
b. Select a conversion task type, then select Schedule.
If you want to schedule a task to convert your model or assembly to a 3D standard format:
a. Click Task Agent and then, in the 3D Models group, click the arrow next to Generate Standard Format. Alternatively, right-click and, in the shortcut menu, click Generate Standard Format.
b. Select a conversion task type, then select Schedule.
If you want to schedule a task to convert your model or assembly to a 3D viewing format:
a. Click Task Agent and then, in the 3D Models group, click the arrow next to Generate Viewing Format. Alternatively, right-click and, in the shortcut menu, click Generate Viewing Format.
b. Select a conversion task type, then select Schedule.
2. In the New Task dialog box, enter the task information.
3. You can select a different Model Load Rule. Depending on the type of format generation you selected, you may also have other options in the New Task dialog box. Edit these options if required.
4. By default, your results are saved to the database. Clear the Save result files to database checkbox if required.
5. To receive the 3D formats by e-mail, check E-mail result files to. The e-mail address box appears. To open list of all the Creo Elements/Direct users, click To. You can either select the recipients from this list or directly enter e-mail addresses in the text box. Separate multiple e-mail addresses with semicolons.
6. Click OK. Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager creates a task for your item, which is visible on the Tasks tab.
To create 3D Format Generation tasks for multiple items,
1. In your Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager workspace, select your models or assemblies. Press Ctrl to select multiple items.
2. Right-click and, in the shortcut menu, and click one of the following:
Generate Native Format
Generate Standard Format
Generate Viewing Format
3. Select the required format type and then, click Schedule.
4. The Create Scheduled Tasks dialog lists your items individually. You can select a different Model Load Rule for each item.
5. To edit the task schedule, click Edit Schedule. In the Scheduling Options dialog, enter the task information. This information applies to all your items.
6. Click Edit all to edit other options for your tasks. For example, you can select:
a load rule for all your items
format-specific options, depending on the type of format generation you selected
Save result files to database
E-mail result files to
7. Click OK. Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager creates a separate task for each of your items. The tasks are visible on Tasks tab.
To create a PDF Generation task,
 
1. In your Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager workspace, select your drawing.
2. Click Task Agent and then, in the 2D Drawings group, click Generate PDF. Alternatively, right-click the drawing and, in the shortcut menu, click Generate PDF > Schedule.
3. In the New Task dialog box, enter the task information.
4. If different Masterdata is associated with your drawing, select the Masterdata in the Masterdata list.
5. Under the Job Options section, you can:
Select the PDF color in the Color Option list.
Select the following checkboxes.
Fit to Paper—Automatically resizes the content to fit the paper.
Searchable Text—Creates a PDF file with searchable text.
Single Document for Multiple Sheets—Combines all selected drawings into a single multi‑page PDF file instead of creating separate PDF files for each drawing.

To create PDF Generation tasks for multiple items,
1. In your Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager workspace, select your drawings. Press Ctrl to select multiple items.
2. Click Task Agent and then, in the 2D Drawings group, click Generate PDF. Alternatively, right-click the selected items and, in the shortcut menu, click Generate PDF > Schedule.
3. The Create Scheduled Tasks dialog box lists your items individually. You can select a different Masterdata for each item.
4. To edit the task schedule, click Edit Schedule. In the Scheduling Options dialog box, enter the task information. This information applies to all your items.
5. Click Edit all to edit output PDF options for your tasks. This information applies to all your items.
6. Click OK. Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager creates a separate task for each item. The tasks are visible on the Tasks tab.
To create a 2D Format Generation task,
 
1. In your Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager workspace, select your drawing.
2. Click Task Agent and then, in the 2D Drawings group, click the arrow next to Generate 2D Formats. Alternatively, right click and, in the shortcut menu, click Generate 2D Formats > Schedule.
3. In the New Task dialog box, enter the task information.
4. If different Masterdata is associated with your drawing, select a Masterdata in the Masterdata list.
5. Check the desired Output Formats. You can select multiple formats.
6. By default, your results are saved to the database. Clear the Save result files to database checkbox if required.
7. To receive the 2D formats by e-mail, select the E-mail result files to checkbox. The e-mail address box appears. To open an address list of all the Model Manager users, click To. You can either select the recipients in this list or directly enter e-mail addresses in the address box. Separate multiple e-mail addresses with semicolons.

To create 2D Format Generation tasks for multiple items,

2. Click Task Agent and then, in the 2D Drawings group, click the arrow next to Generate 2D Formats. Alternatively, right-click and, in the shortcut menu, click Generate 2D Formats > Schedule.
3. The Create Scheduled Tasks dialog box lists your items individually. You can select a different Masterdata for each item.
4. To edit the task schedule, click Edit Schedule. In the Scheduling Options dialog box, enter the task information. This information applies to all your items.

To create a Plot task,
 
1. In your Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager workspace, select a drawing.
2. Click Task Agent and then, in the 2D Drawings group, click the arrow next to Plot. Alternatively, right click and, in the shortcut menu, click Plot > Schedule.
3. In the New Task dialog box, enter the task information.
4. Select the printer and update any of the associated information.
5. Click OK. Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager creates a task for your item, which is visible on the Tasks tab.
To create Plot tasks for multiple items,
1. In your Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager workspace, select your drawings. Press Ctrl to select multiple items.
2. Click Task Agent and then, in the 2D Drawings group, click the arrow next to Plot. Alternatively, right click and, in the shortcut menu, click Plot > Schedule.
3. The Create Scheduled Tasks dialog box lists your items individually. You can select a different Masterdata, or different printing options for each item.
4. To edit the task schedule, click Edit Schedule. In the Scheduling Options dialog box, enter the task information. This information applies to all your items.
5. Click Edit all to edit printing options for your tasks. This information applies to all your items.
6. Click OK. Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager creates a separate task for each of your items, which is visible on the Tasks tab.
Once you create a task, you can edit it at any time: Select the task in the Tasks tab, and click DB Properties.
