Split a part in the BOM
Splits are most often used in the manufacturing process to represent different quantities or lengths of a part, or even processes (like grinding requirements for weldments). Although most of these things are handled by your ERP or MRP system, Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager does provide initial ability.
Use Add Split in the BOM Editor to represent one part in multiple line items in the BOM. For example, you may have a piece of cable that is delivered in 10 meter lengths and you need three cables of different sizes, one at five meters, one at four meters, and one at three meters. Do an Add Split to the cable so you have three instances of the cable in your BOM. Once you've split the part, edit the link attribute to specify the size of each cable.

To split a part in a BOM,
1. Select an assembly and open the BOM Editor.
2. Select the part to split.
3. Click Add Split. The BOM Editor now lists the two parts.
The split part has a quantity of 0.
All link attributes of the original part are copied to the split part.
4. Edit the attribute columns according to your needs.
Now you can generate a BOM report or create a BOM. See Generate a BOM report or Create (scan) a BOM:automatically.
To update a BOM already in use,
1. Send the report to Creo Elements/Direct Annotation. Click File > Send To > Annotation.
2. In Creo Elements/Direct Annotation, click Insert and the, in the BOM group, click the arrow next to Manage.
3. Click BOM Update.
