Packet concepts
*
In order to use packets or projects, your Administrator must have first enabled them in your xml file. See the Customization Guide for more information.
Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager follows what is called packet policy, meaning nothing can be created, modified or deleted unless it is in a packet. When you save an item, it is saved into a packet, which is like an "envelope" that you own. Anything you place in the packet becomes reserved. This means that you can allow others to view items in your packet, but only you can modify them.
When you become a Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager user, a packet is created with your user name on it. This is your personal packet and cannot be sent to another user. Only you can modify or save data into your personal packet. Your personal packet has a lock icon because you can not edit its attributes. Initially, your personal packet will be your working packet that items will save to.
Organizing your data in packets
Data saved into Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager is always saved into your working packet. You can change your current packet, and if you have the correct permission, you can create new packets.
*
Create new packets to organize data into logical groups, such as by project or development phase.
