Manage Users
For optimal usability and security purposes, Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager requires that every person who uses the system has a unique user name. That way, Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager can identify who's working on a model, record who made changes, and notify individuals about important changes.
A user can do a number of things, depending on the group to which he or she is assigned. For example, a user can
Save parts and assemblies to the database.
Load parts and assemblies from the database.
View designs.
Approve designs.
Add design specifications.
As the administrator, you add and remove all users to the system...including yourself!
*
As an administrator, make sure you add yourself as a user. That way you can log in to the system and see how your administration changes appear to users. The medmgr login is reserved for administration activities only.
Add a new user
1. In Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager Standalone, click Admin, on the Workspace Bar.
2. In the left pane, under What do you want to manage?, click Users and Groups. The User & Group Management page opens.
3. In the left pane, under Users & Groups, click Add New User. Alternatively, right-click Users in the workspace and, in the context menu, click Add New User. The Add New User dialog box opens.
4. In the Add New User dialog box, specify the values as follows:
a. User Name: Type a name that can be used for logging in to the system. Use the following guidelines:
If your users log in to their personal computer using a Windows Login Name, use that name as their Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager User Name.
If your users do not log in as a particular Windows user, make their Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager User Name something simple, like their initials. We recommend each user have a password to log in to Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager, but it is not required.
b. Full Name: To help others identify who has an item locked (reserved) or who made a particular change, each user must have a Full Name defined within Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager.
c. Email Address: Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager sends notifications about changes to items in the database to individual users with this e-mail address.
d. Select User Type: When you select a user type, you simplify your administration work. The user type determines what the user will be able to do within the database. The basic groups are:
Administrators: Members of this group have all permissions all the time. They can create new users, add users to groups, and make configuration changes.
CAD Designers: (Default) Members of this group can create, modify, and change the state of documents or parts.
Non-CAD Designers: Members of this group have general public read permissions.
*
If you see other additional groups or types, your system is running in Advanced Mode. See Manage Groups for more information.
e. Select a language for the new user notification. The system invokes an e-mail client inviting the user to download and use Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager.
5. Click OK.
