Reserve and unreserve data
When you save a model or drawing, it is saved into a packet. Items saved in packets are, by default, reserved to that packet. Reserved items can only be modified by the owner of the packet. Unreserving items lets another person reserve the item into their packet.
Reserve an item not currently in your packet:
1. Select the item in the Workspace.
2. Click Home and then, in the Collaborate group, click Reserve. Alternatively, right-click the item and, in the shortcut menu, click Reserve.
Reserve an item already in your packet so others cannot modify the file contents:
1. Expand the packet and select the item to be reserved.
2. Click Home and then, in the Collaborate group, click Reserve. Alternatively, right-click the item and, in the shortcut menu, click Reserve.
Unreserve items from your packet:
1. Expand the packet and select the item which you want to unlock.
2. To unlock the item, do one of the following:
Click Home and then, in the Collaborate group, click Unreserve. Alternatively, right-click and, in the shortcut menu, click Unreserve. The item is unlocked and can be reserved by others.
Right-click the item and, in the shortcut menu, click Remove from packet. The item is unlocked and removed from the packet.

In previous Creo Elements/Direct CAD data management solutions, such as Design Data Management, an item was removed from the packet when it was unreserved. In Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager and Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager, the reference link behavior is controlled by the <LeaveAsReference> XML configuration tag.
